Job Summary
The Clinic Veterinary Technician Trainer is responsible for training new clinic employees including Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants to equip them with the skills necessary to perform effectively in their roles.
Location: Primarily St. Paul, MN with occasional shifts at our Golden Valley location.
Schedule: 40 hours per week, 10 hour shifts between the hours of 7am-5:30pm. Will work 4 days/week within Monday-Friday.
Essential Functions
Instruction:
Develop and instruct training plans and materials that align with AHS processes, protocols, and procedures.
Present training in a clear and engaging manner, utilizing a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles.
Assess trainees’ understanding through regular review, providing feedback and additional support where necessary.
Work with trainees to set goals and track progress through observation and feedback from others.
Conduct regular progress check-ins with trainees.
Training:
Conduct training sessions, including demonstrations of medical treatments and handling techniques.
Teach and enforce standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and protocols related to animal care, medical treatments, and safety.
Collaborate with lead vet techs to assess the skills and performance of trainees and current vet techs and assistants, providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for improvement.
Work closely with veterinarians, clinic staff, and management to ensure cohesive and effective training.
Communication and Culture:
Communicate in a positive and professional manner with clients, other employees, and volunteers.
Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion to make AHS a welcoming environment for all.
Technology:
Accurately maintain and update animal and client records in eVet (Pulse).
Utilize and maintain a variety of medical equipment.
Manage and view work schedule in Makeshift.
Clock in and out of shifts using ADP.
Monitor AHS email and other messaging software.
Other duties as assigned.
Additional Information:
Schedule and Attendance:
Required to be on time to scheduled shifts during operational hours which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Attend and participate in regular team meetings and one-on-one meetings with direct leader.
May be required to work at a different site based on department needs.
May be required to attend occasional off-site meetings and events.
Work Environment:
Environment can be dirty, wet, warm, and humid.
Exposure to zoonotic diseases and pests such as fleas and ticks.
Possibility of being bitten or scratched.
Exposure to unpleasant odors, chemicals, and noises, including barking.
May be exposed to extreme weather conditions including but not limited to cold, heat, rain, and snow.
Experience:
2+ years of experience as a Veterinary Technician required.
1+ years of experience in a high-volume clinic including HQHVSN required.
Leadership and training experience preferred.
Skills:
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Strong attention to detail, multitasking and time management skills.
Ability to present training materials, catering to different learning styles.
Proficient with computers, specifically a working knowledge of Microsoft products.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift, carry, and handle animals and other items up to 50 lbs. unassisted. For animals and other items over 50 lbs., assistance from another team member is required.
Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
Emotional Demands:
Must be comfortable with the emotional aspect of work in the veterinary field and be emotionally resilient.
Must be comfortable handling a variety of animals with a wide range of behavioral and medical needs, including the use of humane euthanasia.
Transportation:
Reliable transportation required.
