Clinical Abstraction Specialist

 Hours of Job

• Full Time - 8:00am-4:00pm


• No Weekends or Holidays Required

Duties and Key Responsibilities

• Accurately abstracts and enters all medical record data according to state and federal regulatory requirements with a low error rate. 


• Prepares quality reports as directed. 


• Participates as needed in quality improvement studies. 


• Attends in-services, department meetings, teleconferences, training sessions and serves on committees as required.


• Abides by HIPAA standards. 


• Serves as GLHS Quality Net Liaison for file exchange on obtaining quality data and reports


• Administrator for CMS reporting and secondary support for NHSN reporting. 


• Performs other duties as assigned by the performance improvement coordinator (or designee). 

Requirements

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Excel.

Education/Certifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

• The specialist should have basic computer knowledge, specifically with word processing and spreadsheets.


• Training in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.


• Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, including data entry, navigation, and reporting functions.
