Position Overview
The Clinical Consultant Manager is a leadership role within the Business Development Department responsible for recruiting, training, and leading APEX’s Clinical Consultant Team while also maintaining personal production of referrals and admissions.
This position strengthens APEX’s presence within hospitals, urgent care centers, emergency departments, and medical networks by embedding clinical credibility into the Business Development strategy.
The Clinical Consultant Manager reports directly to the Director of Business Development and operates as a specialty clinical unit inside the BD division.
This is both a builder and producer role.
Core Responsibilities
Build & Lead the Clinical Consultant Team
- Recruit, onboard, and train Clinical Consultants in priority markets
- Establish KPIs, activity standards, and CRM accountability
- Provide coaching, ride-alongs, and performance management
- Scale the division strategically across target regions
- Objective: Build a high-performing clinical BD team embedded in medical systems.
Medical System Penetration
- Develop and execute strategy to penetrate:
- Hospitals (ED, Case Management, BH Units)
- Urgent Care Centers
- Physician networks and psychiatric providers
- Establish referral pathways and discharge relationships
- Lead high-level meetings with hospital and physician leadership
- Position APEX as a trusted behavioral health transition partner
- Objective: Solidify APEX as the preferred referral partner in medical settings.
Personal Production & Referral Growth
- Maintain an individual referral production target
- Develop and manage key medical accounts personally
- Convert hospital and urgent care relationships into admissions
- Improve hospital-to-admission conversion rates
- Contribute directly to census growth
- Objective: Lead by example through measurable personal admissions production.
BD Integration & Clinical Alignment
- Operate fully within the Business Development team structure
- Align consultant efforts with overall BD strategy
- Support Admissions with clinically complex referrals
- Ensure messaging matches facility capabilities
- Strengthen internal collaboration between BD, Admissions, and Clinical
- Objective: Enhance BD performance through clinical credibility.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Clinical Consultants recruited and retained
- Medical partnerships established
- Growth in hospital-originated referrals
- Personal referral/admissions production
- Hospital referral conversion rates
- LOS impact from medical referrals
Strategic Purpose
This role builds and leads APEX’s clinical presence in medical systems while directly contributing to admissions growth.
It is designed to:
- Increase medically sourced referrals
- Improve referral quality
- Strengthen hospital relationships
- Drive sustainable census growth
At-Will Employment
Employment with Apex Recovery is at-will and may be terminated by either party at any time, with or without cause, in accordance with applicable law.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Behavioral Health or related field
- Clinical licensure preferred
- Experience working within hospital or medical systems
- Leadership experience required
- Strong understanding of discharge planning and ASAM criteria
- Business-minded with production accountability
