Job Description - Clinical Counselor

Position Summary:
The Clinical Counselor plays a vital role in delivering therapeutic support to clients participating in Freedom House's recovery program. This position involves individual and group counseling, clinical assessments, treatment planning, case management, and collaboration with interdisciplinary team members. The Clinical Counselor ensures that all services align with the program's recovery-oriented mission and meet regulatory and ethical standards.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling to clients with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
  • Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, including biopsychosocial evaluations, and document findings accurately and timely.
  • Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients.
  • Facilitate evidence-based therapeutic groups (e.g., CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, relapse prevention).
  • Collaborate with case managers, peer support specialists, medical professionals, and external agencies to coordinate holistic client care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with clinical, legal, and ethical guidelines.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings, clinical supervision, and ongoing training.
  • Contribute to crisis intervention and safety planning as needed.
  • Support the creation of a safe, inclusive, and healing environment that respects the dignity of all clients.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Licensure or license-eligible in the state [e.g., LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or equivalent].
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in addiction recovery or behavioral health settings.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and motivational interviewing.
  • Strong understanding of co-occurring disorders and integrated treatment approaches.
  • Exceptional communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Cultural humility and sensitivity to diverse populations.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in addiction counseling (e.g., CADC, MAC).
  • Experience working in nonprofit or community-based settings.



Working Conditions:

  • Office and clinical settings within the Freedom House facility.
  • May require evening hours.
  • Moderate physical activity; must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
