Job Description - Clinical Manager of Emergency/ICU Departments

Madera Community Hospital

Position Summary:


Performs the primary functions of a professional nurse leader in assessing, planning, directing, and evaluating the Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department on a 24-hour basis.  Is responsible for meeting Approved Accrediting Agency Standards of Nursing Practice for Emergency and ICU Services; for managing all personnel, supplies and equipment in the Department, and for promoting teamwork and guest relations with physicians and personnel of other departments




  • Performs the primary functions of a multi-department leader in overall planning, organizing, directing, staffing and leading the Emergency Service and Intensive/Critical Care Units on a 24 hour basis.

  • Responsible for coordinating, implementing and supervising the delivery of all inpatient care services by Critical Care Unit staff members.

  • Responsible for implementing care in accordance with defined standards of practice, meeting accreditation and licensing requirements, developing and implementing policies and procedures, managing equipment/supplies, budget development and implementation and promoting teamwork with physicians and personnel of other hospital departments.

  • Develops and implements performance improvement activities based upon national patient safety goals and evidenced based practices for emergency and critical care unit services.

  • Develops and coordinates continuing education programs to insure the safe and effective administration of services using today’s technology.

  • Works collaboratively with the departments’ Medical Directors to insure the delivery of quality care and services.

  • Understands and commits to MCH mission and values. Demonstrates ability to work professionally and collaboratively with a culturally diverse population of patients, employees, practitioners, students and volunteers. 

  • Demonstrates higher education for self and staff members.



Qualifications:


Experience:



  • Five years recent clinical experience, including at least 5 years supervisory experience in operations of Emergency Departments with Critical Care.

  • Possess clinical skills necessary to supervise and deliver services to patients in area of expertise.

  • Must demonstrate strong healthcare management, leadership and communication skills along with necessary clinical knowledge and skills appropriate to the departments supervised.

  • Demonstrates positive customer services skills, collegiality among peers, administration and medical staff members.

  • Demonstrates hospital emergency preparedness training and experience with Critical Care, Emergency Room operations including oxygen and compressed air disruption.

  • Recent experience meeting applicable hospital state and federal licensing and certification regulations including California Title 22, Clinical Lab Improvement Act (CLIA) and deemed status Accreditation Organizations.


Education: 



  • Require Bachelors Degree in Nursing. Prefer Master Degree in Nursing or related Hospital Administration field. Pursues programs of continuing education consistent with requirements of Emergency Nurse and Critical Care Associations.


  


License/Registration/Certification:


            Current State of California Registered Nurse license.


            Prefer National American Nursing Association National Certification in area of expertise or equivalent


            American Heart Association BCLS certification required.


            American Heart Association ACLS certification required


            American Heart Association PALS certification required.
