Description

The Neurocritical Care Clinical Pharmacist will provide pharmacotherapeutic support for patients in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit and Neurovascular Stepdown Unit.  


In addition to being an integral member of the interdisciplinary patient care team, this individual will participate in numerous Committees at both the hospital and health system level(s). The Neurocritical Care Clinical Pharmacist will also serve as a preceptor in the Atlantic Health PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program.


Additional responsibilities include:



  • Provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to neurologically injured patients in the Neuro Intensive Care and Neurovascular Stepdown Units.  

  • Patient care responsibilities include: review and recommend optimal, evidence-based medication therapy; provide pharmacokinetic consultations as required; document any changes in patient and pharmacy records and inform others of medication changes; prevent, detect, monitor, document, and report adverse drug reactions and medications errors; participate in the drug therapy management of medical emergencies; promote the use of the formulary by converting non-formulary orders to formulary when possible.

  • Serve as the primary pharmacy participant in MMC’s Stroke Committee and participate in other site-based and system-wide multidisciplinary committees whose charges impact neurologically injured patients 

  • Proactively identify, design, and implement process improvement initiatives relevant to neurocritical care and pharmacy services at both the hospital and health system level(s).

  • Conduct medication use evaluations and research projects in collaboration with other healthcare professionals with the goal of publication and/or presentation at local and/or national meetings.

  • Augment the education of healthcare and non-healthcare team members on treatments related to critically ill, neurologically injured patients.

  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for pharmacists, pharmacy residents and students..



Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Pharmacy with PharmD degree required. 
  • Completion of a PGY1 residency and PGY2 residency in Critical Care preferred. 
  • Board certification in Critical Care Pharmacy (BCCCP) preferred. 
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification preferred. 
  • Current NJ Board of Pharmacy license required. 
  • 1-year experience in a hospital practice setting. 
  • Experience in research activities also preferred.
