The Clinical Quality Improvement Specialist leads site and region-wide clinical performance improvement and patient safety projects that meet national standards and have publicly reported outcomes. This CQIS will support Loyola Medicine (IL) and St. Joseph Health System (IN). This individual applies project management skills, quality and safety improvement tools and techniques, evidenced based practice, and data analysis to achieve positive outcomes. The Clinical Quality Improvement Specialist coordinates strategies, education, and monitoring to promote a culture of quality and patient safety.

Position responsibilities:

QUALITY & PATIENT SAFETY PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

  • Applies project management techniques to plan, coordinate, facilitate, implement, monitor, and evaluate clinical quality and patient safety improvement initiatives to achieve the organizational goals established by the Executive Team.

  • Develops strategies to apply current evidence and best practice to standardize care through clinical protocols and order sets.

  • Collaborates with leaders to develop project charters, aim statements, timelines and plans to drive team performance.

  • Meets targeted timelines on projects and achieves measurable results. Ability to independently facilitate meetings and projects.

  • Uses literature to identify best practices and benchmarking data for process improvements.


QUALITY & PATIENT SAFETY EDUCATION:

  • Plans, coordinates, and delivers education programs regarding project management, quality improvement and patient safety to teams and individuals.


MEASUREMENT & ANALYSIS:

  • Establishes key metrics in partnership with clinical leaders, measurement processes, and data analysis to monitor progress toward project goals.

  • Regularly communicates outcomes selected for measurement or improvement by teams; coordinates processes to aggregate data for trending, analyzes trends and develops recommendations for future interventions.

  • Partners with quality analytics to formulate and build measures.

  • Conducts Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify and mitigate potential risk points.

  • Develops process maps for process improvement.

COMMUNICATION:

  • Identifies mechanisms to communicate progress related to clinical quality and patient safety improvement initiatives.

  • Communicates verbally, with PowerPoint presentations, and in writing to accurately share results and recommendations internally and externally.

  • Promotes the clinical quality and patient safety agenda with a positive attitude.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in nursing or Allied Health Profession.

  • 2 or more years of quality experience, preferably in a hospital setting

  • Experience working with externally-reported data (such as CMS Star Rating, US News and World Report, and Leapfrog)

  • Six Sigma Green Belt, Licensed Allied Health Professional, or Licensed Registered Nurse

  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or equivalent preferred

Computer Skills:

  • Required: Microsoft Office, Chart review with EMR

  • Preferred: Visio, Epic, and Tableau

Compensation:

Pay Range: $71,240- $110,406

Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
