Overview

We are seeking a Study Coordinator I (Study Recruiter) to join a multidisciplinary team supporting clinical research at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Clinical Research Unit (CRU) in Research Triangle Park, NC. This onsite role focuses primarily on participant recruitment and engagement across a diverse portfolio of studies.

The CRU conducts outpatient clinical research spanning pulmonary disease, medical genetics, reproductive health, and investigator-initiated IND/FDA-regulated studies. This position plays a critical role in ensuring successful study enrollment and participant retention through strategic recruitment and coordination efforts.

The ideal candidate will have experience conducting recruitment screening interviews or delivering customer-facing support, along with a background in public health, clinical research, or a related field. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with investigators and study teams to understand recruitment needs and define target participant populations.

  • Contribute to the development of study procedures, including screening scripts, checklists, and tracking tools.

  • Assist in developing recruitment materials, such as advertisements and lead letters.

  • Plan and implement innovative recruitment strategies to support enrollment goals.

  • Identify and pursue community outreach opportunities to enhance CRU visibility and build recruitment partnerships in the local area.

  • Actively pre-screen potential participants via phone and schedule study visits.

  • Document recruitment activity and enrollment metrics in centralized databases and tracking systems.

  • Prepare and distribute study-related materials and specimen collection kits to participants as needed.

  • Monitor study visit windows and schedule follow-up visits within appropriate timelines.

  • Identify and resolve recruitment challenges, including screening flow issues and scheduling conflicts.

  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary research teams and support general study coordination activities.

  • Support the preparation of ad hoc, progress, and technical reports.

  • Ensure compliance with NIH guidelines, local regulations, SOPs, and protocol requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Clinical Research, Healthcare Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.

  • In lieu of a bachelor's degree, a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in public health, clinical research, healthcare, patient engagement, participant recruitment, or a related field may be considered.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in public health, clinical research, healthcare operations, or a related area.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience conducting candidate, participant, patient, or recruitment screening interviews and/or providing customer service, patient-facing, or participant support.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and established performance metrics preferred.
