Job Summary

The Registered Nurse provides safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care in an outpatient clinical setting. The RN works collaboratively with providers and the healthcare team to assess patient needs, coordinate care, provide education, administer medications and treatments, perform clinical procedures, and support quality patient outcomes.

The RN is responsible for maintaining accurate documentation, following organizational and regulatory requirements, promoting patient safety, and providing professional, respectful service to patients and families.

Essential Job Duties

  1. Provide comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care within licensure, scope of practice, provider orders, and organizational policies.
  2. Perform patient assessments, obtain and document vital signs, review medications and medical histories, and complete required screenings and health assessments.
  3. Prepare patients for and assist providers with examinations, procedures, treatments, and diagnostic testing.
  4. Administer medications (to include allergy injections and TB testing) and vaccinations and perform clinical procedures using appropriate techniques and safety standards.
  5. Collect specimens and perform point-of-care testing in accordance with CLIA, manufacturer, and organizational requirements, including required quality control.
  6. Provide patient and family education regarding medications, treatment plans, disease management, preventive care, procedures, and follow-up needs.
  7. Coordinate patient care, referrals, diagnostic testing, results, medication needs, and provider-directed follow-up.
  8. Respond to patient telephone calls and clinical questions and communicate patient concerns, results, and provider instructions in accordance with scope of practice and organizational policies.
  9. Support medication management, including refills, anticoagulation monitoring, new medication education, prior authorizations, and patient assistance resources as applicable.
  10. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record and complete required clinical and patient forms.
  11. Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to appropriately triage patients and support efficient patient flow and provider schedules.
  12. Promote preventive care by addressing health maintenance needs, screenings, and recommended services.
  13. Maintain clean, organized, and safe clinical areas and follow infection prevention, safety, emergency preparedness, and regulatory requirements.
  14. Assist with clinical supply and inventory management, including expiration dates, temperature monitoring, emergency supplies, and required logs.
  15. Support accurate billing, coding, and charge capture related to clinical services.
  16. Advocate for patients and families and provide appropriate support related to healthcare needs, advance directives, serious illness, and end-of-life care.
  17. Maintain current clinical knowledge and competency through required education, training, continuing education, and clinical competency activities.

Qualifications

Education & Licensure -- Graduate from an accredited school of practical nursing, Practical Nurse license from the Indiana State Board of Nursing. Requires a current and valid driver’s license.

Experience -- Graduate of LPN program. Preferred 1 year experience in physician office/clinic setting.
