Job Description - Clinician

Summary/Objective: 

CHJC’s Therapeutic Crisis Residence Program (TCRP) is licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health to provide short-term, intensive, and stabilization-focused care for youth experiencing behavioral health crises. The goal is to assess, stabilize, and connect youth to services in a safe and supportive environment. TCRP provides 24/7 monitoring and supervision, as well as intensive crisis treatment and support for the youth, family, and caregivers to facilitate the youth’s successful return home and/or to the community.

The TCRP Clinician is responsible for the provision of direct clinical services to youth and their families, conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and delivering therapeutic interventions. They work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure comprehensive care. The Clinician will also provide crisis intervention, support during transitions, and work toward stabilizing youth in an emotionally safe environment. 

Essential Functions:

  1. Conduct thorough assessments of youth and their families to identify mental health needs and crisis triggers
  2. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings
  3. Provide individual, group and family therapy to youth in crisis, focusing on emotional stabilization
  4. Monitor progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary
  5. Offer crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques in a supportive environment
  6. Collaborate with team members and external providers to ensure appropriate follow-up care and referrals
  7. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all clinical services and assessments
  8. Engage in regular supervision and professional development to remain current with best practices in crisis intervention and mental health care
  9. Provides clinical support and mentorship to service providers/paraprofessional staff
  10. Participates in interdisciplinary staff meetings to discuss cases and formulate treatment plans
  11. Contacts patient’s families and other collaterals to obtain information to assess and monitor patient’s progress and treatment as appropriate
  12. As necessary, provides on call responsibilities as part of an ongoing rotation

Special Requirements:

Work Environment: Office environment will require occasional travel to local schools, conferences and/or meetings and moderate travel within the community to include off-site/in-home visits. May have contact with service recipients that are agitated and/or are in crisis. Some risk involved working with service recipients with mental illness. Works in an office setting with a controlled temperature environment. Occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions may occur depending upon assignments. The role involves working in a residential-type facility, where clinicians will be interacting closely with youth and their families, ensuring a therapeutic and supportive atmosphere 

Equipment: This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of related office equipment including personal computers and printers, audio-visual equipment, telephone systems, copiers, fax machines, etc.

Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push/pull, climb, bend, and stoop. Must be able to perform fine motor skills, read, and type. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Full-time, flexible working hours to meet the needs of the program. Nights and weekends are required. This position is required to work on-site.

Travel:

Limited travel may be required.

Required Education and Experience: 

Licensure by the New York State Department of Education as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW or LCSW-R) or Licensed Psychologist (Permit holders and Interns authorized with provided supervision). Experience working with youth and families in a clinical or crisis setting. Knowledge of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and mental health disorders. Must be trained or willing to complete training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:

Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to work with diverse populations. Must demonstrate effective and excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others. Must be detail-oriented and possess excellent time-management skills. Requires self-direction, tact, diplomacy, and the ability to be clear, courteous, and professional. Able to react to change productively and manage other duties as assigned.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications: 

Must maintain privacy of confidential information. Successful completion of routine pre-employment requirements as mandated by the New York State Department of Health, Office of Mental Health and Office of Children and Family Services along with ongoing clearances and exclusion checks. These requirements are to include employment health requirements, reference checks, criminal background checks/fingerprinting, State Central Registry clearance and your eligibility to work in the United States. A valid NYS driver’s license is required. Corporate Compliance, HIPAA Privacy Security, and Workplace Harassment and Discrimination Training and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, First Aid and CPR will be required following date of hire.
