Cloud Security Operator Consultant

About the Opportunity:
Our team has partnered with a rapidly growing renewable energy company seeking a

"Cloud Security Operator"

to join their team. This role emphasizes expertise in Microsoft Defender and offers a great opportunity for process improvement and automation.

Salary:

$60-75/hr DOE on a W2 + benefits (health/dental/vision, 401k match, etc.)

Location:

2-dayHybrid in Durham, North Carolina (Tues/Thurs onsite)

Responsibilities:

Own and manage Microsoft Defender endpoint security, while protecting against threats.
Investigate security alerts/incidents, perform root cause analysis, document, and implement preventive measures.
Develop, maintain, and update security policies and procedures in line with industry best practices in cloud environments.
Maintain active patching schedule.
Conduct regular security audits and generate reports detailing the effectiveness of our security measures.
Develop and maintain security documentation, including security plans, procedures, and policies.
Collaborate within the IT team to ensure the secure configuration and management of all systems.
Provide cyber training and guidance on best practices for maintaining security and privacy using KnowBe4.
Report email missed attacks via the Abnormal reporting process.
Perform security assessment for new proposed applications.
Implement Zero Trust, Conditional access.
Keep up to date with the latest security threats and trends (including security related to AI) and make recommendations for improvements to our security posture to senior leadership.
Lead annual penetration testing with our third-party provider.

Required:

Bachelor`s degree in IT or an equivalent degree preferred.
3+ years of proven security experience in a cloud environment (O365, Azure, AWS, GCP).
3+ years of experience writing and enforcing security policy, standards, and practices.
Strong experience with Microsoft Defender with an ability to set up playbooks, etc.
Experience in a medium to large organization preferred.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Defender, Sentinel, and other Microsoft security products.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
Excellent communication, collaboration skills, both written and verbal with both technical and non-technical individuals.
Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, Microsoft Certified: Security Operations Analyst Associate are preferred.
Familiarity with security regulations in cloud environments such as SOC2, and NIST
Proven experience with PowerShell is preferred.
Strong understanding of cloud security protocols and technologies (firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, VPN, etc.)
Ability to analyze and interpret security data in cloud environments and make recommendations for risk mitigation.
Experience with DevSecOps practices and tools, such as Git, BitBucket, DAST, SAST, IAST, RASP
Able to implement and manage automations & orchestration (low code/no code) as applicable to streamline.
Network experience/knowledge is a plus (Palo Alto, DNS, etc.)
Able to work effectively in a dynamic environment with competing priorities.
Renewables industry experience is a strong plus.
