CMM Inspector

Description

A CMM Inspector (Coordinate Measuring Machine Inspector) is a professional who operates and maintains coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) in manufacturing or quality control settings. CMMs are advanced tools used to measure the physical geometrical characteristics of an object. A CMM inspector is responsible for inspecting and ensuring the precision and accuracy of parts or products according to engineering drawings, specifications, or design standards.

Requirements

Key responsibilities of a CMM Inspector include:

• Operating CMM Equipment: Setting up and operating the coordinate measuring machines to measure parts and components accurately. This can include both manual and automated CMM systems.
• Inspection and Measurement: Inspecting parts to ensure they meet required specifications, measuring attributes like dimensions, angles, surface roughness, and positioning of holes or features.
• Data Analysis: Reviewing measurement data to identify any discrepancies or defects. The inspector uses this data to determine whether the part or component is within the allowable tolerances.
• Reporting and Documentation: Recording inspection results, documenting any deviations, and providing reports to engineers or managers. If defects or out-of-tolerance measurements are detected, the CMM inspector communicates these findings to the relevant team for corrective action.
• Maintenance of Equipment: Ensuring that the CMM is properly calibrated and maintained for optimal performance. This includes regular checks, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Quality Control and Assurance: Working to maintain high standards of quality assurance, ensuring that products meet industry standards and customer requirements.

Skills Required:

• Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
• Proficiency in CMM software, such as Mitutoyo PC-DMIS
• Attention to detail and precision
• Problem-solving and analytical skills
• Good communication skills for reporting and team coordination
• Knowledge of various types of measuring equipment and tools

• Lifting - employees must lift 25 pounds and occasionally 50-75 pounds with assistance.
