CMM Programmer - Aerospace

Position Overview:

As a CMM Programmer - Aerospace, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the dimensional accuracy of aerospace machined components by programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). In this position, you will oversee the generation of CMM programs, mentor CMM support staff, and work closely with internal and external teams to meet customer requirements. You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of the quality system, supporting the overall goals and objectives of the company. This position reports directly to the Quality Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, generate, and maintain      CMM & VCMM programs for aerospace components, including setup instructions and operational guidelines.
• Mentor and train CMM support staff, ensuring high standards are maintained for new program releases.
• Serve as the main liaison between Masterbilt, Trigo ADR, and Prime Aerospace customers, working onsite to ensure program compliance and customer satisfaction.
• Interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) standards (ASME Y14.5) to program CMMs and validate part specifications.
• Utilize programming languages such as PC-DMIS, CALYPSO, and others to create and optimize CMM      programs.
• Prepare and maintain detailed inspection reports and files for audit purposes, ensuring full compliance with aerospace standards.
• Perform First Article Inspections (FAIs) according to AS9102 standards and verify product conformity using a variety of inspection tools, including hand tools and advanced devices like 3D scanners and FARO arms.
• Manage non-conformance processes by preparing Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and working with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues.
• Ensure inspection equipment and measuring tools are properly maintained and calibrated, supporting accurate dimensional inspections.
• Support continuous improvement efforts in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, identifying opportunities for quality system enhancements.
• Participate in quality audits and assist in maintaining AS9100 standards.
• Maintain proper documentation and communicate inspection results to relevant stakeholders.
• Support the Quality Department in all aspects of raw materials, purchased components, and production part inspections.
• Contribute to maintaining safety and quality standards throughout the production process and ensure proper handling of equipment and gauges.

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience:
  • 3-5 years of experience in CMM       programming, with proficiency in PC-DMIS (required).
  • Proven experience in dimensional inspection, programming, and operating CMM systems for aerospace components.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T  (ASME Y14.5) and blueprint interpretation.
  • Experience performing First  Article Inspections (FAIs) according to AS9102 standards.
  • Solid understanding of metrology best practices and the ability to determine appropriate inspection methods.
  • Experience with hand measurement tools and advanced inspection devices such as 3D scanners and FARO arms.
• Skills:
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to problem-solve and make independent decisions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) for documentation and reporting purposes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments and with customers.
  • Ability to meet deadlines,  prioritize work, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
• Other Requirements:
  • Ability to drive long distances to customer or supplier locations as needed.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs and work occasional extended hours or weekends when required.

Desired Experience:

• 5-10 years of technical experience, with at least 3 years in quality assurance within the aerospace sector.
• Experience with continuous improvement initiatives and familiarity with quality control systems like Statistical Quality Control (SQC) and Statistical Process Control (SPC).

Work Schedule:

• Typical Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, or 2nd Shift 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM. Occasional extended hours.
