Description

SUMMARY

The CNC Lead provides day-to-day leadership and support across the CNC department, ensuring that CNC Operators and Setup Technicians follow proper processes, meet quality standards, and maintain safe, efficient production. This role bridges operations between basic part handling, machine setup, and quality assurance while acting as the first point of contact for troubleshooting, training, and process coordination.

SALARY

  • $24.50/hr + Shift Differential & Shift Incentive

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Support and lead a culture of safety by enforcing compliance with all company policies and safety protocols.
  • Act as the primary floor resource for CNC Operators and Setup Technicians, answering questions and resolving issues in real time.
  • Ensure machine setups follow standard procedures and meet production requirements.
  • Conduct regular spot checks on Operator and Setup Technician work, including VMS records, dimensional checks, and visual inspections for burrs or cosmetic defects.
  • Troubleshoot CNC machines, setups, and tooling issues, escalating when necessary.
  • Provide ongoing training to Operators and Setup Technicians on proper machine operation, inspection techniques, and process updates.
  • Review and update setup sheets, SOPs, and ECO changes; communicate changes clearly to the team.
  • Coordinate production schedule with the CNC Manager, ensuring machines are staffed, prioritized, and running according to the schedule board.
  • Ensure accurate logging of setups, run times, and downtime in the Machine Metrics system.
  • Track inventory of consumables, tooling, and restock items; notify management when levels are low.
  • Lead daily tie-ins between shifts, providing written and verbal communication to maintain continuity of production and priorities.
  • Partner with Quality, Programming, and Management to resolve part or process issues through root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Promote and enforce 5S principles across CNC work areas.
  • Perform light maintenance and ensure machines remain in clean, safe, and ready condition.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, repeatability, and part quality.
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have direct supervisory authority but provides leadership, training, and coordination for CNC Operators and Setup Technicians.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to coach and mentor others.
  • Advanced CNC machining knowledge including setups, offsets, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, setup sheets, BOMs, and technical drawings.
  • Proficiency in precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, VMS, CMM).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to perform root cause analysis.
  • Excellent time management, prioritization, and organizational abilities.
  • Sense of urgency, accountability, and professionalism in all tasks.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of CNC machining experience, including setup responsibilities.
  • Prior experience leading or training within a CNC or manufacturing environment strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
  • Frequently required to lift and move up to 40 lbs.
  • Repetitive hand motions and part handling throughout the shift.
  • Visual acuity for inspection tasks.
