Job Description - CNC Machine Operators

Description

MVP is looking to hire CNC Machine Operators for our Machine Shop in Knoxville, TN on a weekend shift Friday - Sunday! We are seeking several types of CNC Machinists; Robodrill Machine Operator, Screw Machine Operator, Lathe Machine Operator and a Lead Machine Operator. In these roles, you will operate conventional, special purpose, and computer numerical control (CNC) machines (Lathe, Robodrill and Screw Machines), and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. You will measure and inspect parts to ensure conformance to engineering specifications. We will provide a Family. What You Will Do:

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, and grinders.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Operates CNC machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Starts and observes CNC machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications using standard metrology equipment.
  • Fabricates and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products such as industrial equipment and machinery, power equipment, servo systems, machine tools, and measuring instruments.
  • Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly and verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  • Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience as a machinist in an industrial toolroom or Associates degree in Industrial Arts of Metal Fabrication
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, technical procedures,
  • Working knowledge of ASNE Y14.5 and G.D.&T. standards.
  • Working knowledge of standard metrology tools and inspection methods.
  • Excellent toolmaking and/or machine troubleshooting skills.
  • The ability to work and communicate and work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardization exists.
  • Understanding of mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane, solid geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Proficient math skills with fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Working near moving mechanical parts approximately 80% of the time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs on a frequent basis.
  • The noise level is moderate (examples: machine shop with various machines in operation).
