Recruitment Description:


The Police Department has a vacancy for a full-time Code Enforcement Officer.  This is a full-time position and may require working weekends throughout the year.            


 


Code Enforcement Officers help ensure that the Ellensburg Community is clean, welcome, and a safe environment through enforcement of Ellensburg City Codes related to parking, weeds, rubbish, garbage, inoperative vehicles, and all adopted state parking laws.



The person in this position will perform the full range of duties related to enforcement of Ellensburg City Codes and state laws, including but not limited to issuing citations, recordkeeping and correspondence, customer service, and other administrative/support tasks for the Department.  There is regular interaction with emotional, angry people and most work is performed independently with little direction.

QUALIFICATIONS:


The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.



REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:



  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

  • Must be at least 18 years old

  • Two (2) years of experience performing duties that require similar skills such as enforcement of policies, rules, or regulations, administrative tasks, and customer service.

  • Please note: An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered in lieu of the above requirements as determined by management.



REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:



  • Valid Washington State driver’s license by date of hire; must be able to maintain an insurable driving

  • Able to obtain Washington State certification for Access terminal within six (6) months of hire.

  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.



SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:


Applicants must agree to a credit check and be in good credit standing having no debts currently assigned to collections with a history that reflects no pattern of credit instability.  The applicant must not have a pending garnishment or judgment which may cause undue hardship while employed with this agency, with the exception of child support.  The hiring authority shall consider the status of applicant’s credit history on a case-by-case basis.  Prior to hire, the candidate is required to pass a background which includes finger printing and a polygraph exam. 


 


*This is a civil service position.  Employees who submit an application to HR by the closing date must participate in a written test. Candidates will be notified of the testing date and time.  Candidates who meet the written score cut-off will proceed to an oral board.  Award of these position(s) will be made after successful completion of a complete background and polygraph.



This position closes to City of Ellensburg OPEIU members on 6/20/25 at 5:00 PM.
