Job Description - Coding Associate





Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Coding Associate to support accurate and compliant medical coding across various specialties. This role combines traditional coding responsibilities with quality assurance tasks, helping ensure compliance with ICD-10-CM, CPT, and risk adjustment guidelines. The ideal candidate has strong foundational coding skills and a demonstrated ability to perform coding reviews or support audit initiatives. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assign, review and validate code selections for completeness and compliance with CMS ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS medical coding guidelines.
  • Identify and flag documentation deficiencies and collaborate with providers or coders to resolve discrepancies and documentation gaps.
  • Provide education and feedback to coding staff and/or clinical providers to support accurate and compliant coding practices.
  • Participate in team huddles, educational sessions, and coding updates to stay current with federal and state regulatory standards and industry changes.
  • Support risk adjustment initiatives by ensuring accurate HCC capture when applicable.
  • Assist with preparing audit reports or summaries for internal QA reviews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental goals and operational needs.

Requirements

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health information management or related field preferred.
  • 2–3 years of hands-on coding experience required, auditing, QA, or risk adjustment exposure preferred.

Certifications (Required):

One or more of the following:

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
  •  Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
  •  Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC)
  • Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA)

Skills:

  • Solid understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCC coding guidelines. 
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking.
  • Proficiency in EHR and coding platforms.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

Salary Range: $50,535 – $70,942 per year
