Collateral Underwriting Analyst/Appraisal Review Specialist

Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group, recently voted #1 in the nation as the best large mortgage company to work for by National Mortgage News, is seeking a Collateral Underwriting Analyst/Appraisal Review Specialist to join our team! 

This role offers the opportunity to leverage strong analytical, communication, and customer service skills to perform comprehensive quality reviews of residential mortgage appraisals. The ideal candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance, accuracy, and risk mitigation.

What you’ll be doing

  Conducting thorough reviews of residential appraisal reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data, including property characteristics, market analysis, and valuation conclusions.

  Evaluating appraisals for compliance with investor guidelines (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac), as well as government agency requirements (FHA, VA, USDA) and Minimum Property Requirements (MPRs).

  
  


• 
  

  Identifying discrepancies, inconsistencies, or potential risk factors within appraisal reports and determine appropriate resolution steps.

  
  


• 
  

  Assessing comparables, adjustments, and overall valuation methodology to ensure credibility and supportability of the appraised value.

  
  


• 
  

  Communicating review findings clearly and professionally with appraisers, mortgage bankers (MBs), and internal teams to facilitate timely resolution of conditions or revisions.

  
  


• 
  

  Providing detailed, well-documented feedback and maintaining audit-ready review notes in accordance with company and regulatory standards.

  
  


• 
  

  Maintaining established productivity and quality benchmarks while managing a high-volume pipeline.

  
  


• 
  

  Staying current on industry regulations, appraisal standards (USPAP), and evolving investor guidelines.

  
  


• 
  

  Collaborating with underwriting, processing, and quality control teams to support efficient loan production and risk management.

  
  


• 
  

  Escalating complex or high-risk appraisal issues to senior management as appropriate.

  
  

What you'll bring

• 
  

  Minimum of 2 years of experience reviewing residential mortgage appraisals required

  
  


• Designations such as Direct Endorsement (DE) and/or Staff Appraisal Reviewer (SAR) are preferred but not required


• Strong knowledge of appraisal principles, valuation methods, and market analysis


• 
  

  Working knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and USDA guidelines

  
  


• 
  

  Broad understanding of the end-to-end mortgage origination and underwriting process

  
  


• 
  

  Experience working with appraisal management companies (AMCs) and/or direct appraiser engagement

  
  


• 
  

  Familiarity with appraisal review platforms and mortgage loan origination systems

  
  


• 
  

  Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  
  


• 
  

  Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical information clearly

  
  


• 
  

  Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
