Columbus School for Girls (CSG) is an independent day school in Columbus, Ohio, founded in 1898, serving students in grades pre-k through grade 12. Columbus School for Girls seeks to hire a full-time, enthusiastic, and collaborative College Counselor to begin in the 2025-2026 academic year. Major Functions and Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will join a team of colleagues who are energetic, creative and collaborative. The candidate will be expected to support students annually through the college search and application process; to stay abreast of trends and issues in the field; and to present to students and families on the college application and selection process and on the landscape of highly selective college admissions. 

The college counselor will:

• Work collaboratively with the Director of College Counseling, the Director of Upper School, and other administrators and faculty to effectively implement and continually seek excellence in all aspects of the college counseling process
• Guide a group of the sophomore, junior, and senior classes through the college search and admission process, including composing a comprehensive counselor letter of recommendation for each of your assigned senior students
• Engage intensively and collaboratively with each grade’s families, enthusiastically holding conversations, building relationships, and encouraging interaction among students, parents, and the college counseling office
• Cultivate relationships with colleges, ensuring that there is a strong relationship between college representatives and CSG; this includes organizing and hosting college representatives visiting CSG, staying updated about higher education, participating in professional development, and traveling to colleges and universities
• Assist students in identifying resources for scholarships and financial aid
• Counsel, support, and mentor a diverse group of students and families through the college selection and application process each year, including building college lists, writing individualized recommendations for each counselee, and providing feedback to students on their college essays (caseload will be adjusted according to the class size)
• Present to students, families, teachers, and advisors about current trends, match, and fit in the college search and application process
• Advise families on decisions regarding standardized testing and early decision/early action plans
• Visit and expand CSG’s network with colleges and universities to learn about options for students and to further educate these institutions about CSG
• Provide guidance to students and families applying for need-based financial aid

Experience, Characteristics, Qualities:

• Bachelor’s degree; Advanced degree preferred
• Three or more years of relevant experience in College Admissions, Advising, or College Counseling (preferred)
• Excellent skills in listening, counseling, verbal and written communication, public speaking, creativity, and technology. 
• An understanding of the value of an all-girls education and the eagerness to learn about the best ways to help young women of promise reach their full potential as learners and leaders.
• A demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion, and have experience working with a diverse student population. 
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Successful candidates must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends to support college counseling programs, to write recommendations and to travel to colleges.
