General Summary: 

The College Counselor position is a hybrid workshop facilitator/college counselor responsible for delivering and supporting FFLV’s Fulfillment Fundamentals program for student and family participants. This role is critical to the engagement and follow-up support of students and their families at partner schools and organizations. The position will support two to three Las Vegas schools and will require travel to those locations. The ideal candidate for the College Counselor position will be an engaging presenter with the foundational knowledge to help students and families navigate the complex processes of pursuing higher education. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Support

• Provide in-person or virtual college counseling support to program participants.
• Help students identify and apply for scholarships, summer enrichment opportunities, and volunteer work. 
• Work in person or virtually with students one-on-one or in community workshops to support completing college applications, personal statements, and registering for college entrance exams (SAT/ACT).
• Collaborate with the Fulfillment Fundamentals team to create and implement in-person or virtual methods to provide online college counselor support (i.e., ask a counselor session, online threads via social media platforms, ask me anything: college counseling edition virtual events.)

Facilitate College Access Workshops

• Develop and facilitate workshops about FAFSA, scholarships, college applications, etc.
• Provide individualized and small-group college counseling to students in assigned high schools. 
• Collect and input students' college counseling data and program services into the FFLV database.
• Offer guidance on financial aid options and alternative funding solutions to support families in making informed decisions about post-secondary education.
• Assist with student engagement events such as ACT boot camps, College Decision Day and college day field trips when necessary. 
• Deliver engaging workshops and opportunities for students and families.
• Enroll students in Fulfillment Fundamentals program.
•  Collect student and family information for post-workshop follow-up in the form of, but not limited to, newsletters, informational communication, and individual college counseling support. 
• Develop ongoing knowledge of the education landscape in southern Nevada including structure, policies, procedures, and student graduation requirements.
• Collaborate with the Fulfillment Fundamentals team to maintain existing curriculum/program materials and create instructional activities as needed. 

Collaboration

• Create, strengthen, and maintain working relationships with colleagues and partner schools/organizations.
• Collaborate with other wraparound service programs to provide a comprehensive college access programming to students on campus
• Communicate regularly with partner schools/organizations and the Fulfillment Fundamentals team.  
• Work with the Communications/Development team to promote workshops and virtual Fulfillment Fundamentals events.
• Collect and validate participant data and submit regular reports. 
• Assist with special projects and student services as identified by Leadership.
• Occasionally attend, assist, and support annual fundraising events and presentations. 

College Preparation Knowledge

• Perform ongoing research on pressing educational issues and best practices related to college access. 
• Participate in ongoing college access, admissions and financial aid professional development training. 
• Possess and/or develop knowledge of admissions and other policies related to the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI), Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) and private college systems.
• Be familiar with and informed about all policies and concerns related to federal and state financial aid.

• Working hours for the position will be primarily school hours, however extended evening time will be required for presentations and events.

Education and/or Experience: 

• A bachelor’s degree is required.
• Extensive work experience with high school students, ideally first-generation students.
• Work experience in college access and outreach (preferred, not required)
• Experience facilitating workshops and presenting to groups
• Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
• Bilingual Spanish is a plus.
• Classroom or teaching experience a plus.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: 

• Valid Nevada State Drivers’ License
• Proof of current automobile insurance 
• Proof of current automobile registration
• Must be able to obtain CCSD Badge by undergoing fingerprinting process through CCSD
