Role Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and talented Colorist with a specialization in wash and fiber science to join our team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in creating and maintaining a vibrant multi-brand color library and daily comments. Your expertise will shape the visual identity of our brands, ensuring consistent and captivating color stories across all projects. Responsibilities

Color Assessment & Feedback

  • Conduct precise color evaluations for lab dips, bulk lots, and strike-offs.
  • Deliver timely approvals or constructive feedback within established timelines to maintain production rhythm.

Swatch & File Organization

  • File swatches promptly and systematically (e.g., by order or project sequence).
  • Maintain daily folder updates, verify completeness, track statuses, and archive records for easy retrieval.

Spectrometer Operation & Color Communication

  • Master spectrometer operations, including calibration and reading interpretation, to validate color accuracy.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders (customers, colleagues, suppliers) to address color-related queries and ensure alignment.

Supplier Color Performance Management

  • Daily Workflow: Log Color Request Forms (CRF) in detail, rate supplier color compliance (e.g., pass/fail metrics, trend analysis), and circulate concise daily reports highlighting critical issues requiring immediate resolution.
  • Root-Cause Troubleshooting: Guide suppliers in resolving color failures by reviewing lab data, production workflows, or raw material variances; propose and assess solutions (e.g., "Option A reduces Delta E but adds 2-hour lead time—recommend for critical orders").
  • Monthly Reporting: Compile data-driven color performance reports (including compliance rates, top issues, and supplier rankings). Collaborate with suppliers to develop improvement roadmaps (e.g., training needs, process upgrades).

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Support the design team in creating and finalizing seasonal color cards as needed.
  • Coordinate with supply chain and internal business partners to communicate color management procedures and expectations.
  • Escalate performance concerns to quality management and cross-functional teams when necessary, driving continuous improvement.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Textile Engineering, Clothing, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in color matching/management within the textile or garment industry, with a focus on European and American markets.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and color analysis tools.
  • Superior color vision (must pass Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hue or Ishihara Color Tests).
  • Skilled in operating Data-color spectrophotometers (calibration, data interpretation).
  • Strong understanding of color theory, dye types, and their impact on various fabrics.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and confident with a creative mindset.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and follow-up skills.

Success Indicators

  • Achievement of client-approved accreditation for color evaluations.
  • Effective color control across production stages, with measurable improvements in supplier color compliance.
  • Timely delivery of feedback and reports, supporting uninterrupted production workflows.
  • Facilitate color management escalation program and partner with cross functional team members / customers as needed.
  • Oversee coordination of color processes in compliance with T&A deadlines.
  • Maintain records in compliance with department archive rules.
  • Support design team to create and finalize seasonal color cards as needed.

This an on-site role, with 5 days in our Secaucus, NJ office 

 

PAY RATE: $90,000/yr-$114,000/yr
