Job Description - Combat Systems Engineer



Full-time


Description

The Combat Systems Engineer will lead efforts in the development and integration of Navy combat systems, applying the Rapid Capability Development process to requirements analysis, system integration, and test and evaluation. This role involves cross-domain IAMD and C5I integration, ensuring interoperability across weapons, sensors, and networks. The engineer will leverage deep knowledge of Navy T&E processes to support system verification and validation, apply DOTMLPF principles within capability development frameworks, and collaborate on technical documentation including system specifications, interface control documents, and CONOPS. Additionally, the SME will validate emerging technologies, assess system performance, and identify solutions to close critical lethality gaps in fleet warfighting capabilities. 

Your duties will consist, but are not limited to:

  • Review and provide recommendations on Navy/Joint warfare system concepts, tactics, techniques, and procedures.
  • Conduct research and evaluation supporting development of C5I, weapons, surveillance, and IAMD systems (including ASW, ASUW, EW, Cyber, and Space).
  • Monitor and assess performance of combat, weapons, and surveillance systems to ensure operational readiness.
  • Validate and document how emerging technologies and combat systems address operational lethality gaps.
  • Identify and present issues related to command and control (C2) across warfare areas. 
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret operational/tactical/system data (from fleet reports, RDT&E events, training, and intelligence).
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports, studies, and presentations for senior stakeholders.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment:

  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Must possess and maintain a current SECRET clearance and be eligible for TS/SCI
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications:
Applicants must demonstrate the following qualifications to qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following:

  • Qualification and experience in a watch station with authority to employ the Aegis Weapon System (e.g., Tactical Action Officer, Air Warfare Coordinator, Battle Watch Captain). 
  • Possession of a Tactical Action Officer (TAO) Qualification Letter or BMD Watch Officer Qualification Letter.
  • Expertise in surface Navy combat systems and integrated air and missile defense (IAMD).
  • Ability to conduct operational analysis and present findings in technical reports and briefings.
  • Skill in collecting and interpreting operational/tactical/system data.
  • Knowledge of C5I systems, command and control, and multi-domain warfare concepts.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with Navy, Joint, and DoD stakeholders.

Experience:

  • Minimum 12 years of military, government, or industry experience with surface Navy combat systems, C5I, networks, weapons systems, and IAMD planning tools/systems.
  • At least 5 years of experience aboard Navy cruisers, destroyers, or frigates or within qualified DoD warfare areas.
  • Experience in Navy Combat Systems development and the Rapid Capability Development process.
  • Knowledge of DOTMLPF process and Navy Test & Evaluation (T&E) process.
  • Experience reviewing and collaborating on Navy technical documentation.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.

How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated based on your level of knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience in the following areas:

  • Technical writing and editing for defense-related publications.
  • Knowledge of Navy and Joint doctrine, TTPs, and publication processes.
  • Proficiency in Adobe design and editing tools.
  • Ability to synthesize complex tactical/technical information into clear, concise publications.
  • Experience coordinating with SMEs and Warfare Tactics Instructors.

Salary Requirements are contingent:

140-175K
