This is a full-time position with Los Angeles Unified School District. The Commissioning Technician will oversee the commissioning process for small to medium in-house projects, ensuring systems meet design and performance standards. Responsibilities include conducting design and submittal reviews, developing commissioning plans and checklists, leading commissioning meetings, performing field inspections and functional testing, and preparing final reports. The role also involves supporting project managers as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), maintaining issue resolution logs, and contributing to staff training initiatives. Candidates should have at least eight years of commissioning experience, a strong understanding of MEP systems, applicable codes and standards, and hold an ANSI-accredited commissioning certification. A degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management is required, with additional credentials such as a PE license or energy management certification preferred.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

• Manage the commissioning process on various in-house small to medium sized projects
• Perform Commissioning design reviews, submittal reviews and closeout document reviews
• Create pre-functioning and functional checklists and commissioning plans
• Conduct Commissioning meetings and managing the commissioning process for assigned projects
• Perform field observations and functional testing
• Document and track test results on issue resolution logs
• Create commissioning deliverables such as final commissioning reports
• Assist in the review and development of staff training and continuing education opportunities
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the Project Manager of Commissioning

Minimum Requirements

Required Experience:

• Eight (8) years full time paid professional experience in commissioning
• Working knowledge of building code, CHPS, and commissioning requirements
• ANSI commissioning certification (CxA, CxT, BCxP, Certified Commissioning Professional)
• Extensive knowledge of building, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems

Preferred Experience:

• Experience in design or construction management with a focus on mechanical systems
• Engineer-In-Training Certification or valid CA Professional Engineering License
• Industry- recognized energy management certification

Required Education:

• Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelors degree, preferably in mechanical or electrical engineering, architecture or construction management
