Primary Responsibilities: Media Relations
- Builds and maintains relationships with key reporters in CT and RI.
- Plans and pitches stories to local, regional, and national media outlets.
- Coordinates logistics for media events such as press conferences, media visits to health centers, elected official visits, and visits by PPSNE/PPVCT/PPVRI leaders with editorial boards.
- Manages the tracking and evaluation of media coverage; prepares regular reports to assess earned media impact.
- Serves as the team expert in media tracking software and maintains a database of key contacts, including reporters, influencers, and other organization partners.
- Drafts and distributes a range of media notifications (advisories, releases, statements) on behalf of PPSNE, PPV!CT, and PPV!RI.
- Monitors the media email inbox and triages incoming requests to ensure timely follow-up with media contacts.
- Collaborates with the Senior Director of Communications & Brand Marketing to prepare organization spokespeople for media engagements and sits in on media interviews as needed.
- Supports the media training for organizational leaders.
- Serves as a member of the Rapid Response Team, helping implement crisis communications plans and providing support during urgent or high-profile moments.
Primary Responsibilities: Editorial + Digital Content Creation
- Develops engaging editorial content for both print and digital platforms that informs, educates, and sparks conversations in support of the mission and priorities of PPSNE, PPV!CT, and PPV!RI.
- Serves as a brand voice expert to guide content creation in collaboration with other departments; and ensures content aligns with our tone and reflects the unique voices of our organization’s leaders. Designs and writes a variety of materials, including newsletters, reports, blogs, and presentations.
- Specializes in content creation that supports philanthropic communications and creates content that educates and inspires supporters to maintain and increase their charitable giving.
- Collaborates with the Brand Marketing team to create social media and website content.
- Provides internal communications content as needed such as drafting organization-wide emails, staff newsletter articles, intranet content, and other internal communications.
- Prepares first drafts of external-facing CEO communications.
Primary Responsibilities: Program + Project Management
- Leads project management for philanthropic publications, including donor newsletters and the annual report, overseeing timelines, tasks, and deliverables
- Serves as primary point of contact for vendors engaged to support publications.
- Manages the affiliate email communications program in coordination with internal teams and Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), ensuring alignment with national best practices to maximize audience reach and engagement.
- Monitors and analyzes email metrics to track performance, identify trends, and improve engagement.
- Provides project management support to cross-functional and cross-agency initiatives that engage external constituencies and PPSNE priority communities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in public relations, journalism, communications, English, media studies or another relevant field of study or equivalent experience.
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in communications, journalism, public relations, and editorial content creation.
- Excellent writer with the versatility to write in various voices for internal and external audiences on various topics such as public policy, health care, and education.
- Skilled in brand communications, with a strong understanding of tone of voice and communicating for impact.
- Experience developing donor communications that inspire engagement and giving.
- Experience managing publications from concept through production, including knowledge of editorial workflows.
- Strong attention to detail, copywriting skills, and ability to research, prioritize, and identify accurate background information.
- Proficient in PR software such as Muck Rack and comfortable evaluating media performance using qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Experience in crisis communications and rapid response situations.
- Understanding of the state-level legislative process and election cycle.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize work and thrive in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and organizational skills with the ability to build relationships across teams.
- Able to cultivate and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Comfortable working nimbly, flexibly, and without direct supervision.
