Communications and Special Events Assistant



Position Overview


The City of West Monroe is seeking a dynamic and creative Communications and Special Events Assistant to join our team in promoting community engagement and enhancing the city's public presence. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of communications, marketing, and community events while supporting various city departments and initiatives.



Key Responsibilities


Communications & Marketing



  • Develop, create, and manage engaging social media content across multiple platforms to promote city services, events, and initiatives

  • Design visually compelling graphics for various communications materials including social media posts, flyers, newsletters, and promotional materials

  • Produce basic video content for digital marketing campaigns and social media engagement


Special Events & Community Engagement



  • Serve as an integral member of the City of West Monroe special events team

  • Assist in the coordination of logistics for city-sponsored events, festivals, and community gatherings

  • Maintain vendor relationships and coordinate food truck operations for special events

  • Assist with event planning, setup, execution, and breakdown processes

  • Collaborate with local businesses, community organizations, and stakeholders to enhance event experiences

  • Provide on-site event support and troubleshooting during special events


Administrative & Collaborative Duties



  • Coordinate communications and project activities across multiple city departments

  • Maintain organized records of marketing materials, event documentation, and vendor information

  • Assist with budget tracking and resource allocation for communications and events



Schedule Requirements


This position requires flexibility to work outside standard business hours, including:



  • Evening events and community meetings

  • Weekend festivals and special events

  • Seasonal events and holiday celebrations


Regular schedule adjustments and time-off compensation will be provided for extended hours worked during special events.



Qualifications


Education



  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or related field

  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered


Required Skills & Competencies



  • Social Media Expertise: Proven experience in social media content development, scheduling, and community management across multiple platforms

  • Graphic Design: Proficiency in design software with the ability to create professional marketing materials, social media graphics, and promotional content

  • Video Production: Basic video editing and production skills for creating promotional content, event highlights, and social media videos

  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and brand voice consistency

  • Task Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines
