Job Description - Communications Coordinator

Description

Job Summary

This position is responsible for executing communication programs to inform, educate and engage key stakeholders in Boone County. This role will work closely with elected officials, county administration, department heads and partner agencies to implement strategic campaigns that drive change.

This position reports to the Communications Director.

Major Essential Duties

  • Responsible for the development and updating of communications materials across county websites, social media channels, and internal communication tools
  • Identify social media trends and implement campaigns to grow the County’s social audience
  • Designs and produces visual materials, including flyers, graphics, and presentations that follow design best practices in Canva
  • Support media relations initiatives, which will include writing press releases, pitching news stories, building relationships with reporters and coordinating interviews with media and County staff
  • Work with the Communications Director to create, implement and manage a content calendar
  • Monitor and manage day-to-day interactions on County social media channels.
  • Assist various county departments by working with key stakeholders to design and implement a communications strategy 
  • Load and manage projects in Your Voice, Your Boone County, the County’s public engagement platform
  • Support community outreach initiatives, including County’s civic engagement program

Relationships

  • The Communication Coordinator performs duties within the Communications Department, under the direct supervision of the Communications Director.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism or related field, plus 3-5 years of relevant experience in communications and public relations.
  • Knowledge of social media best practices and trends.
  • Excellent content creation skills for print, video and digital campaigns and materials.
  • Proven experience implementing communication campaigns.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, Meta Business Suite, social media management tools.
  • Proficiency with video editing tools, such as CapCut, Adobe Premier Pro or others.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and ability to follow up on unresolved items.
  • Ability to multi-task and function effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional, flexible and optimistic.
  • Ability to adhere to high ethical standards and maintain confidentiality.

Language Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Good public speaking ability.

Reasoning Skills

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines

Other Knowledge and/or Skills

  • Ability to work under limited supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees

Manual Dexterity

  • Typing and data entry
  • Handling and sorting paper documents

Hours:

  • Full-time employment with an expectation of 40 hours per week. The schedule can vary depending on department needs
