Job Description - Communications Coordinator

SUMMARY:


Coordinator performs a range of specialized and administrative duties focused on promoting and preserving the Prairie Island Indian Community (PIIC) brand. The communications Coordinator will take the lead on creating content and building schedules for internal communications. In addition, this role will support the variety of PIIC departments in communicating with internal and external stakeholders.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:


The following duties and responsibilities are not meant to be all inclusive and may be adjusted to meet business needs.



  • Support the Communications Manager in all areas of business communication strategies

  • Communicate with key partners

  • Develop effective external and internal media presence through strategic growth of website and social media platforms

  • Create content, provide photography and video content, and participate in online conversations by answering questions, offering solutions and mediating conversations.

  • Support creation and maintain the communication tools and resources, including (but not limited to), Website, Tinta Wita (Monthly newsletter), Tribal Member E-Newsletter, Information Packets and Smoke Signals (Employee Newsletter)

  • Support community engagement efforts, including on-site event management. May require working a few evenings and weekends.

  • Create unique content for use in Tribe’s communication efforts, including, event

  • Maintain and update the Employee Intranet and the Prairie Island Indian Community website

  • Other duties as assigned




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Media Relations, Marketing or related field

  • Knowledge of social media platforms

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including excellent editing skills

  • Proficiency in using a computer and common computer software programs (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Teams and Adobe Acrobat).

  • Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision

  • Ability to work well within the existing team and government structure

  • Sensitive to Native American Culture

  • Must pass drug screen (UA) and a criminal background check

  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurability


PREFERRED QUALICATIONS



  • Experience capturing event photography

  • Proven Adobe InDesign experience

  • Graphic Design skills and a creative mindset

  • Experience copywriting and creating content


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:*



  • Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time with occasional amounts of standing or walking


REQUIRED TRAINING:



  • Effectively Handling Harassment training

  • Any position-related training as determined by department manager


WORKING ENVIRONMENT:



  • Work is performed primarily in an office setting but may include occasional outdoor activities.
