Working Title: Business Systems Communications Lead

Location:  Hybrid, Santa Fe and Los Alamos, NM (within a 2-hour ground commute)

Pay Rate:  $80–$87/hr

Clearance:  DOE “Q” required

About the Role

We are recruiting on behalf of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for a Communications Specialist 4, working as the Business Systems Communications Lead. LANL’s Business Management Directorate is replacing its legacy ERP business system with a modern enterprise platform built on SAP S/4HANA. The multiyear effort will unify processes and data, integrate customized applications across organizations, and support more efficient, data-driven operations.

In this role you will own strategic and tactical communications for the organizational change management side of that transformation. Working alongside the Program Change Manager, you will serve as a key communications advisor to project leadership, workstream leads, system integrator partners, and engagement teams, making sure employees across the Lab know what is changing, how it affects them, and how they will be supported through the transition.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead communications planning across multiple workstreams and execute implementation strategies that help teams anticipate communications needs.


• Advise project leadership, workstream leads, system integrator partners, and engagement teams on communications for the ERP transition.


• Engage employees Lab-wide throughout the transition, keeping them informed of upcoming changes, how they may be affected, and how they will be prepared.


• Coordinate the work of Lab multimedia staff and contribute content for employees, managers, and other internal stakeholders across a variety of channels.


• Maintain consistent messaging and manage key communications vehicles for the program.


• Establish and maintain communication protocols across the program team.


• Collaborate with internal partner organizations, external stakeholders, functional team members, and organizational business communications staff throughout implementation.

Required Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or a physical, life, or social science and a minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Some experience leading and coordinating cross-functional teams with diverse skill sets and organizational backgrounds in support of key business objectives is helpful.

Top Skills & Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of English grammar and punctuation, with extensive editing and writing experience.


• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word.


• Baseline understanding of generative AI tools and prompt engineering, including evaluating AI-generated content for accuracy and quality and applying AI responsibly within organizational policies.


• Project management experience on large, enterprise-wide initiatives, with sound judgment and the ability to work as a trusted partner to leadership.


• Proven ability to assess challenges and to create and execute multi-channel communication campaigns that achieve specific, measurable goals.


• Experience working with executive-level leaders, including capturing an executive’s voice in quotes and correspondence without significant oversight.


• A track record of integrating multimedia content (photos, video, and graphics) into web-based campaigns that reach audiences where they are and drive results.

Security Clearance

A DOE “Q” clearance is required for this position. The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a national laboratory or other large government organization.


• Experience with procedures and other process or policy documents related to facility operations.


• Ability to recognize and coordinate responses to third-party relationships that may be affected by the project.


• Understanding of, and some experience applying, organizational change management principles, including communications and newsletters that support employee adoption and engagement.


• Prior work on a multi-functional, large-scale business transformation project, particularly one involving SAP S/4HANA.

Contract Details

Work Arrangement:  Hybrid, working partially on site and partially off site. Work locations are in Santa Fe and Los Alamos, NM, and you must live within a 2-hour ground commute. Work locations are at the discretion of management and may change with appropriate notice.
