For more than 40 years, the Boston Private Industry Council (PIC) has worked at the intersection of business and community interests to connect Boston residents to promising career pathways while creating a diverse talent pipeline for local employers.
The PIC convenes business and government, along with education, labor, and community leaders, to address racial and socioeconomic inequities and align education and workforce development systems to better meet the needs of Boston’s communities and employers. JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Communications Specialistworks with the Development and Communications Director to manage the PIC’s external relations and promote the organization’s work to key stakeholders and the general public. The role includes writing and producing marketing materials; maintaining the PIC’s social media presence; updating PIC websites; identifying new opportunities for digital marketing; prospecting potential donors; and assisting with grant applications and reports.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communications (70%)
Visibility materials: Create promotional materials for the PIC. Design, photograph, and write copy for reports, marketing materials, infographics, and flyers.
Documentation: Document PIC activities through photography and videography; Create spotlights and social media content using the photos and videos.
Social media: Run the PIC’s LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram accounts; Attend PIC and partner events and promote/feature on social media; Provide support, oversight, and training to PIC staff running other social media accounts.
Website: Manage the PIC’s official website (bostonpic.org), including updating photos, writing news items, and posting resources; support other staff in managing affiliated websites.
E-Newsletter: Develop an editorial calendar and lead production of the PIC’s email newsletter.
Events: Collaborate on the planning of events, including the PIC’s annual meeting, holiday party, and meetings for funders and partners, among other events.
Collaboration: Coordinate with PIC staff and partners at all levels; partnering agencies include the City of Boston, the Boston Public Schools, local community colleges, employers, and grant funders.
Media: Promote the PIC and its work to local media sources. Track local media, including the Dorchester Reporter/WBUR, the Bay State Banner, and the Boston Herald, and pitch stories featuring PIC initiatives, research, and students.
Development (30%)
Fundraising: Assist Development and Communications Director in writing grant applications and reports, tracking reporting deadlines, and running the annual corporate contributions campaign.
Corporate Engagement: Assist Development and Communications Director with developing and implementing a strategy for engaging new corporate partners.
Research: Research, track, and report on development prospects using the PIC’s existing Salesforce database.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree or other degree relevant to communications and substantial related work experience
Strong design experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, etc.)
Exceptional writing and editing skills, including spelling/grammar, with the ability to write clearly, concisely, and compellingly
Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with both community partners and internal personnel
Skilled in photography, videography, and photo and video editing
Strong organizational skills and ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment as a self-starter and team member
Experience with Constant Contact or similar e-newsletter platforms
Knowledge of HTML and WordPress
Comfortable using data and digital analytics tools to measure the effectiveness of communications efforts
Experience maintaining and growing organizational social media presence
Enthusiasm to learn and promote the work of the PIC
Salary Range:

$50,000-$60,000
