Austin Industries has an outstanding opportunity for a Communications Specialist to join our team at our corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas. We need a talented individual to help drive Austin’s communication strategy, providing support to Austin Industries and its operating companies. If you thrive on innovation and want to contribute to a forward-thinking, strategy-minded communications team, this role is for you. We need a strong writer, a fast learner, someone social media savvy, and a team player able to work with stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities:

  • Support strategic communications plans in support of enterprise, operating company, and shared-service departmental initiatives

  • Assist, where needed, key partners in business development and marketing to support advertising, proposals, and other customer- and external-facing initiatives

  • Assist in the creation, editing, and publication of communications, in collaboration with subject-matter experts, across diverse channels, both internal and external:

    • Internal channels include the internal company news hubs (via SharePoint), Austin’s intranet, our printed employee-owner newsletter, and all enterprise email-based communications

  • Develop, with minimal direction, timely articles that promote Austin initiatives and successes to employee-owners

  • External channels include company website, company social media profiles.

  • Assist in creation and publication of social media content

  • Serve as a communications content advisor, acting as a communications resource for stakeholders across the organization

  • Support internal customers with graphic design, copyediting, and event photography/videography

  • Support Austin’s bi-annual employee-owner and senior leadership meetings

  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal, written, and digital communication skills, and an ability to communicate complex topics in a compelling manner

  • Be self-sufficient and able to handle multiple aspects of a given communication beyond writing; we have some photography and design support, but you must be nimble to meet deadlines

  • A strong motivation and work ethic in support of Austin’s mission and core values

  • Good editorial judgment and ability to originate relevant content

  • The ability to self-start, able to work independently and efficiently – get information and direction when needed and GO!

  • Ability to create and maintain communications and/or social media calendars and posts

  • A learner’s mindset: attention to detail, great listening skills, and an attitude of service to improve and adapt on the fly

  • Familiarity with email marketing tools such as Constant Contact, Mailchimp, or similar

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple concurrent projects

  • Ability to travel as needed

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Strength in desktop publishing and proficiency in Adobe InDesign

  • An interest and some useful experience in video production, with a good eye and a basic understanding of video/audio recording best practices

  • Microsoft SharePoint experience, particularly with modern news sites

Requirements:

  • A major or bachelor's degree in journalism, communication, or a related field

  • Minimum one year of corporate communication experience or commensurate internship/collegiate experience

  • Must have a college and/or professional portfolio that demonstrates your writing, creative, and technical skills

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign

  • Experience in Microsoft Office

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States. Austin Industries is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.
