General Description and Classification Standards

Assists the Department of Public Works (DPW) in carrying out the overall functions and day-to-day operations relating to community affairs and Keep Atlanta Beautiful Commission. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: providing administrative support; coordinating special events; developing outreach opportunities; attending meetings and special events; coordinating volunteers and processing associated paperwork.

Supervision Received

May work independently or with other workers with responsibility for completion of assigned tasks.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. Serves as liaison to business, professional, religious, community and civic groups for continuous positive public relations.

Plan, review and manage the activities of Keep Atlanta Beautiful Commission. Including:
  • Maintain the Keep Atlanta Beautiful Commission program calendar.
  • Establishes collaborative partnerships with city departments, community agencies and organizations, volunteers, and individual citizens.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to build relationships and establish dialogue with the community.
  • Supports the Community Affairs Manager and the Executive Director in developing relationships with external stakeholders and other entities in an effort to develop, maintain and grow Keep Atlanta Beautiful Commission initiatives.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to build relationships and establish dialogue with the community.
  • Represent Keep Atlanta Beautiful Commission at city-wide meetings, community association meetings, and community events.
  • Reviews complaints, identifies trends and discusses plans of correction.
  • Report community problems or issues through proper internal protocols
  • Responds to questions, complaints, and requests for information by telephone, in-person or by e-mail from citizens, city employees and department heads.
  • Works closely with Community Affairs Manager and Executive Director to launch new initiatives with appropriate internal and external stakeholders.
  • Follows up with citizens as needed.
  • Develops linkages and relationships that enhance the quality of engagement with youth and the local communities, such as colleges, churches, non-profits, social organizations and associations.
  • Identify options and solutions to the issues raised by the community.
  • Track cases that are of concern to the community
  • Generate reports as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Coordinate efforts for the following initiatives with the Department of Public Works and KABC:
  • Monthly recycling collection events
  • Scrap Tire Collection Events
  • Community Cleanups
  • Adopt-A-Spot
Coordinate efforts for the following initiatives in conjunction with Keep America Beautiful, including but not limited to:
  • America Recycles Day
  • Community Appearance Index
  • Great American Cleanup
  • Annual Report
  • Provide strategic objectives and policies in accordance with the mission of Keep America Beautiful
  • Formulate annual goals and objectives
  • Oversee the office-related and administrative functions, e.g. reviewing mail, responding to inquiries, maintaining records, etc.
Decision Making

Ability to make decisions within the scope of their essential job duties; decisions related to financial, staffing resources and political implications, it will require the approval of the supervisor.

Leadership Provided

Routinely provides work group leadership, guidance, and/or training to less experienced staff and volunteers.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong grammar skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and be able to relate to people at all levels of the organization.
  • Superior time management and organization skills including demonstrated experience managing multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Superior attention to detail and quality control of ideas, correspondence, and department planning.
  • Ability to perform multiple duties and change from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing or related field; or comparable experience (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis)
  • 1-3 experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement, public relations and marketing.

Preferred Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing or related field; or comparable experience (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis)
  • 3+ years' experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement, public relations and marketing.
  • Experience working with a 501(c)3/non-profit organization.
  • Three (3) years community outreach experience.
  • Excellent written and communication skills. Must be capable of interfacing with all levels of management.
  • Able to work independently and be a strategic thinker.
  • Experience with environmental concerns and initiatives desirable.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of social media channels desirable.
  • Ability to meet established deadlines while handling multiple projects.
Licensures and Certifications

Required: Valid Georgia driver's license
