Overview

Family Promise of Essex County (FPE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families overcome or avoid the crisis of homelessness. FPE seeks a skilled community engagement and volunteer management professional to fill the role of Community Engagement Manager/Circles Coordinator.

The Community Engagement Manager (CEM) is responsible for engaging the community to support FPE’s mission, recruiting and managing volunteers and overseeing FPE’s stabilization program, known as Circles.

The Circles program is a national, transformational approach to reduce poverty that partners volunteers and community leaders with individuals and families wanting to make the journey out of poverty.

The program is volunteer-centric and relies heavily on community involvement in order to function.

The CEM has experience working with diverse socio-economic communities, skills in community organizing and volunteer management, and an awareness of the social service resources in the community. This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Executive Director.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Community Outreach and Engagement

· Ability to write and speak passionately about what’s needed to reduce homelessness and poverty in the local community.

· Reach out to explore and develop new partnerships with like minded organizations and complementary community groups.

· Represent FPE at community events and speak publicly to community groups, schools, and other organizations about the work of FPE as needed.

· Maintain communication and coordinate volunteer opportunities and drives for in-kind donations, holiday, and other recognition events with FPE’s network of faith-based partners and other community groups.

· Recognize and acknowledge community partners and volunteer contributions to FPE.

Circles Essex Coordination

Circles USA will provide intensive training and ongoing support and resources to the person in this position.

· Responsible for overall management and ongoing development of FPE’s Circles program, ensuring program delivery, outcomes, quality control and program evaluation.

· Responsible for recruitment, screening, enrollment, training and support of Circles program participants and volunteers

· Be the Circles Essex liaison with Circles USA.

· Promote a supportive, inclusive, positive culture within the Circles community.

· Attend and provide leadership in Circles community meetings.

· Supervise and support the Circles Coach in his or her role of providing support to Circles Participants and Volunteers in the matched circles.

· Assist with fund development and report the outcomes from Circles USA data system to the Development Manager/Executive Director.

· Work with the FPE Program Director and Executive Director to plan for growth and development of the program.

· Responsible for overseeing data collection and reporting results in the Circles USA data system.

· Work occasional flexible hours (nights/weekends) as needed to meet with families, volunteers, or staff or to attend community networking or outreach events.

Circles meetings are currently held on Thursday evenings in Montclair.

· All other duties as assigned by FPE to ensure success of Circles.
Education, Experience and Skills

The successful candidate is enthusiastic and can display good judgment, take initiative, communicate clearly and professionally, demonstrate respect and collaboration, and work independently as well as with a team.
Bachelor’s degree with two years’ experience in community engagement and volunteer management in a social service setting.
Proven ability to recruit, train and work with volunteers.
Must be able to work independently, as well as effectively within a team.
Can relate authentically and effectively with people from diverse socio-economic situations.
Proven oral and written communication skills.
Ability to mediate in situations involving disagreement or conflict.
Proficiency in computer functions including Microsoft Office software (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.), apps and social media.
Maintain a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the Circles community.
Current Valid Driver’s License.
Familiarity with the Essex County community, available resources and community organizations is a plus.

Salary: $60,000
