Job Description - Community Membership Manager


Position Title: Community Membership Manager (CMM)

Reports To: Director of Membership

FLSA Status: Salaried, Exempt

Classification: Senior Professional

Location: Muskegon Service Center

Grade: 4

Position Summary: Communicates to parents and girls about joining our organization and helps identify new volunteers who want to bring Girl Scouts to their local communities. The right candidate is an outgoing, self-motivated, goal-oriented team player who likes to provide strategic solutions, tell the story of Girl Scouting via presentations, and network with community organizations, corporations, schools, educators, faith-based intuitions, and other community constituents. This individual will attend and host events across a designated territory and have a direct impact on the overall fiscal success of Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore (GSMISTS) by bringing the Girl Scout experience to more girls and adults across their territory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Increase membership of girls and adults for GSMISTS in the designated territory
  2. Meet and exceed recruitment goals by developing effective customer service and recruitment strategies through organization, effectiveness, persistence, and exceptional time management
  3. Identify and seek new member prospects.
  4. Establish, develop, and maintain collaborative relationships with organizations and leaders to secure opportunities
  5. Promptly follow up on leads and referrals 
  6. Coordinate and schedule meetings to meet with prospective members in a variety of settings and venues; prepare and present information to audiences intended to increase awareness, interest, and membership in GSMISTS
  7. Work with all council departments to ensure new member council goals are met; work with regional team to ensure the effective delivery of recruitment strategies and new member placement
  8. May perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills, and practical communication skills are a must.
  • Previous experience recruiting volunteers or members, or sales, recruitment, or account management background preferred.
  • This position requires a minimum of 2 recruitment events per week
  • Extensive travel within the designated territory.
  • Highly effective interpersonal communication skills and comfort communicating with adults and girls. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual, Spanish speaking is highly preferred.
  • Excellent technical computer skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook and customer relationship management systems. Must be comfortable with electronic media and use the internet proficiently.
  • Prior experience and/or knowledge of public speaking, recruiting volunteers, working directly with youth, and/or facilitating Girl Scout programming. Experience delivering STEM programming preferred.
  • Ability to work with volunteers and community contacts from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and details to effectively manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and produce results.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Registration as a member of Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore.
  • Willingness to authorize a background screening with the cost being absorbed by the council.
  • Ability to work independently, in person, and with a flexible schedule including after school, evenings, and weekends. 
  • Ability to travel throughout the service area as the job requires. 
  • Capability to provide own transportation and maintain valid operator license. 
  • Must be able to occasionally lift or move a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Capability to adjust hours during peak seasons.
  • Position requires multiple evenings and occasional weekend work.
