JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) Community Outreach Coordinator plays a crucial role in fostering positive relationships between ATLDOT and the community. The Community Outreach Coordinator supports the Community Engagement Director with public events and engagements, including Public Information Open Houses, milestone commemorations, staff celebrations, pre-construction meetings, and signature events. The incumbent must be a strategic thinker, skilled at planning and executing multiple events simultaneously. This person will focus on building internal and external partnerships and be an effective communicator. The successful candidate will maximize the impact of existing public engagements, leading vision, and creation of events and programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborates with the Community Engagement Director to plan, organize, and execute community events, ensuring they align with organizational goals.

• Coordinates event logistics, including venue arrangements, vendor communication, and on-site coordination.

• Contributes to the development of marketing materials and communications related to community engagement initiatives.

• Utilizes all social media and other channels to promote events, volunteer opportunities, and organizational achievements.

• Coordinates, plans, organizes, and directs all milestone commemorations for ATLDOT.

• Develops and schedules a calendar of relevant events for the Communication Team and ATLDOT staff.

• Utilizes Constant Contact, NextDoor, Mailchimp, and Survey Monkey for public outreach for ATLDOT projects.

• Organizes, stores, tracks, and manages all department branding, equipment, and tools.

• Works with Office Operations staff to coordinate and implement internal celebrations and events.

• Manages all public engagement documents and ensure accuracy for ATLDOT's platforms (R Drive and Teams)

• Provides public engagement-related content for publications, websites, project updates, etc.,

• Develops and track metrics to measure the effectiveness of public engagement.

• Performs other duties deemed necessary by the Community Engagement Director.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

The Community Outreach Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Community Engagement Director. Must work well, independently, and collaboratively, with a team.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Excellent time-management skills to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Highly organized with effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and promote positive and professional relationships with internal staff, vendors, contractors, media, and the public to achieve departmental and organizational goals
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with constituents, appointed and elected officials, and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of current trends in communication, public relations, marketing, social media platforms, and public engagement
  • Familiarity with the use of Microsoft Teams and ZOOM
  • Knowledge of graphic design and the ability to incorporate them.


QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field desired
  • At least two years of related experience
  • Computer proficiency and technology fluency
