Job Description - Community Specialist - Music



Full-time


Description

Summary

Under general direction, the Community Specialist – Music is responsible for teaching music classes to individuals served, assisting individuals in learning how to write and perform music, and facilitating participation in community-based music activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction and assistance in creating and recording music to individuals in multiple Day Habilitation programs as well as in community-based settings.
     
  • Conducts group and individual music activities at multiple locations, including community-based locations.
     
  • Conducts group classes on music history, current musical trends, and related topics.
     
  • Collaborates with other specialists and staff to perform and record music for opportunities such as performances, films, and special events.
     
  • Assists individuals with identifying opportunities to perform and promote their musical creations.
     
  • Identifies and implements new and innovative opportunities.
     
  • Works with program management to arrange for transportation and staffing for community-based activities.
     
  • Creates compelling flyers to advertise upcoming opportunities.
     
  • Ensures that services are rendered to individuals with utmost regard for their personal dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
     
  • Purchases supplies for special events through approved agency procedures.
     
  • Implements universal precautions at all times.
     
  • Participates in in-service training programs as requested.
     
  • Provides supervision and guidance to Direct Support Professionals during classes and community trips.
     
  • Keeps abreast of changes in the field, as well as advances in music and adaptive recording equipment and technology.
     
  • Performs other related duties as requested.
     


 

 
 


Requirements

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills  
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines  
  • Proficiency in using a personal computer and relevant software  
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with coworkers, individuals served, families, and external contacts  
  • Ability and willingness to adjust work schedule for events outside of regular business hours  
  • Ability and willingness to travel to various program sites

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalency required
     
  • Minimum of 6 months teaching experience with individuals with disabilities or other populations
     
  • Awareness of and ability to use technology to create music and music videos with individuals serve
     

COMPENSATION: $24-$26 HOURLY + INDUSTRY LEADING BENEFITS
