Composite Technician - Exciting Challenge

Basic Qualifications

• Candidate must have 2+ years’ experience with composite structures fabrication and repair, mold and tool making from aerospace (preferred), marine, automotive, or similar industry.
• Experience with wet lay-up and resin infusion processes, especially epoxy and cyanate ester resins
• Experience with fabrication using VARTM methods
• Experience vacuum bagging, mold/tools, building jigs and fixtures  for autoclave applications
• Experience using a variety of hand tools in cutting, grinding, fitting, and assembling
• Experience with adhesive bonding applications
• Experience with assembly of aerospace structures including setup, bonding, and fastener applications
• Ability to obtain a security clearance
• High School diploma

• Composite lamination
• VaRTM composite fabrication
• Autoclave bagging and operation
• Composite trimming / grinding
• Mechanical assembly / alignment
• Liquid shimming
• Match drilling
• NC Programming for CNC router
• Machining tooling & molds on CNC router
• Tooling & mold precision assembly
• Reporting documentation

Day-to-day:

Candidate will be required to make extensive use of knowledge, training, and experience in fabrication of composite structures to develop tooling concepts, supervise and develop workflow for technicians, and resolve assembly and integration issues.   Candidate will work closely with engineers to design complex tool geometry and streamline the assembly sequences.  Candidate will fabricate tooling from supplied blueprints, utilizing pre-impregnated graphite materials and wet lay-up materials.  Candidate will perform all phases of composite fabrication process, including creating molds, lay-up of materials, curing, finishing, repair, and inspection.  Candidate will recommend new fabrication techniques and process improvements to other team members and clients.  Candidate will maintain tools and hardware and recommend which machines and tools are used throughout manufacturing process.  Candidate will evaluate prototypes, assist vendors and clients develop price quotes, and estimate materials and quantities needed for production.  Candidate will effectively communicate complex structural design and fabrication ideas to colleagues and clients -- both thru informal discussions and by creating PowerPoint presentations for management.
