The Compounding Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Automated Pouching Operations (APO) Compounding department, leading a team responsible for batching, blending, mixing, and staging raw materials used in manufacturing finished products. This position ensures production schedules are achieved while maintaining the highest standards of safety, product quality, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), sanitation, inventory accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all batching, weighing, measuring, blending, and mixing activities to ensure compliance with approved formulas, production orders, and manufacturing specifications
Ensure raw materials are properly received, identified, staged, verified, and consumed using established inventory control and traceability procedures
Monitor compounding processes to ensure ingredient incorporation, product consistency, and adherence to manufacturing standards
Coordinate material availability with Warehouse, Planning, and Production to support uninterrupted manufacturing operations
Monitor production performance and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime, waste, and production delays
Ensure completed batches are accurately documented and transferred to production in accordance with established procedures
Ensure all compounding activities comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety requirements, sanitation standards, and company policies
Review batch records, production documentation, inventory transactions, and material traceability records for accuracy and completeness
Lead investigations into product deviations, process failures, material discrepancies, and quality concerns
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to improve operational performance
Partner with the Quality Assurance team to ensure compounds meet product specifications prior to release to manufacturing
Support internal and external quality, food safety, and regulatory audits
Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Engineering, Warehouse, Supply Chain, and Production leadership to resolve operational challenges
Support new product launches, process validations, equipment installations, and operational improvement projects
Communicate production status, material shortages, equipment issues, staffing concerns, and operational risks to leadership
Oversee cleaning and sanitation of mixing equipment, tanks, utensils, material handling equipment, and production areas to prevent cross-contamination
Promote and enforce all company safety policies and OSHA requirements
Supervise, coach, develop, and evaluate Compounders and other assigned production employees
Schedule and assign daily work activities to ensure adequate staffing and production coverage across all shifts
Qualifications
Associate degree in Manufacturing, Operations Management, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Quality Management, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant manufacturing leadership experience
5+ years of manufacturing experience in a consumer packaged goods (CPG), food, beverage, tobacco, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing environment
2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience
Experience leading compounding, batching, blending, or ingredient preparation operations
Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), sanitation programs, food safety requirements, and manufacturing quality systems
Experience conducting root cause investigations and implementing corrective and preventive actions
Understanding of inventory control, raw material traceability, and production documentation
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations Management, Industrial Technology, Food Science, Quality Management, or a related field
Experience supervising compounding or batching operations within a regulated manufacturing environment
Experience supporting FDA, GMP, OSHA, HACCP, or other regulatory compliance programs
Experience leading teams within a union manufacturing environment
Experience with ERP, MES, or inventory management systems
Forklift certification or experience overseeing material handling operations
