The Concrete Quality Control (QC) professional is responsible for ensuring that all concrete materials and finished products meet project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. This role involves sampling, testing, and reporting on raw materials and finished concrete, and monitoring production processes to ensure quality consistency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Sampling & Testing:
Perform field and lab tests on concrete (slump, air content, temperature, compressive strength).
Collect samples of aggregates, cement, and water for testing.
Maintain proper documentation of all test results.
Inspection & Monitoring:
Inspect concrete production and placement at job sites or plants.
Monitor batch plant operations and ensure mix designs are followed accurately.
Ensure compliance with ASTM, ACI, DOT, and project-specific standards.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate and detailed QC records and test reports.
Report any deviations or non-conformance issues to supervisors.
Assist with preparing quality control plans and submittals.
Communication & Coordination:
Work closely with production teams, contractors, and project managers.
Provide technical support and advice on quality issues.
Participate in pre-pour and post-pour inspections and meetings.
Compliance & Safety:
Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures.
Ensure quality practices comply with environmental and regulatory standards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS IN ORDER TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Stand/walk – frequent – a combination of standing and walking up to a 10-hour shift
Bend/stoop/twist – frequent – in labor positions
Repetitive use of hands
-Grasping tools – frequent
-Reach/push/pull – frequent - moving materials
Lift/carry - up to 50 pounds – occasional
Good vision, hearing, and speech
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS IN ORDER TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Read and understand printed materials and/or means to compensate for such
Comprehend and consistently perform the safety functions of the essential functions
Comprehend reasonable instructions and plan steps to carry out essential functions with minimal supervision
Experience in a construction setting
Ability to understand units of measurement and translate to production
Ability to read and interpret production drawings
Ability to problem-solve and organize
QUALIFICATIONS IN ORDER TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate's or bachelor's degree in construction materials, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred.
ACI certification (Field Testing Technician Grade I or higher).
Experience with concrete testing and inspection (1–5+ years, depending on role level).
Knowledge of ASTM standards and quality management systems.
Proficient with computers and test data software (Excel, QC databases, etc.).
Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
Ability to work in field conditions and lift heavy test samples/equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL:
Outdoor exposure is subject to weather conditions
Exposure to mechanical hazards; vehicle traffic; slip/fall hazards

Interacts professionally with customers and visitors
