Summary

The Congestion Trading Manager will be responsible for developing and running advanced modeling for our solar assets using PROMOD or PLEXOS. This analysis, including Locational Marginal Pricing forecasting, will support commercial decision-making in our greenfield pipeline up until financing, aid in managing our operational assets, and play a significant role in modeling revenue. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in trading, business, finance, or economics, with solid experience in electrical engineering and power flow analysis, coupled with a solid understanding of market dynamics, especially in PJM and MISO. This role requires flexibility, adaptability, and an entrepreneurial mindset, as the scope of responsibilities may evolve over time to support the growth of our commercial team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a fundamental analysis framework to support all congestion trading activities.
  • Conduct advanced modeling and scenario analysis using PROMOD or PLEXOS to identify congestion risks and opportunities.
  • Perform LMP forecasting to support trading strategies and decision-making processes.
  • Analyze and provide guidance on FTRs value, forward prices, and transmission congestion dynamics.
  • Model revenue impacts based on congestion and market conditions.
  • Provide analytical support for commercial decision-making in the greenfield pipeline up until financing.
  • Aid in the management of operational assets by providing insights from congestion modeling and LMP forecasting.
  • Track transmission and generation outages, line upgrades, new builds, and generation retirements; model them and evaluate their impact on LMP and transmission congestion dynamics.
  • Monitor market conditions, regulatory changes, and transmission developments to inform trading decisions.
  • Conduct financial analysis and modeling to assess the profitability and risks associated with congestion trading.
  • Collaborate with other departments such as Origination, Finance, Investments, and M&A to support their needs with congestion trading insights.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to senior management on trading performance and market outlook.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant market rules and regulations.
  • Support functions necessary to build out the full commercial team as needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to changing responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and strong knowledge of business and finance. MBA is a plus.
  • Proven experience in energy trading, with a focus on congestion trading in PJM and MISO.
  • Strong proficiency in using PROMOD or PLEXOS for market modeling and analysis.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and market trends.
  • Strong understanding of market rules, congestion management, and transmission systems, especially in PJM and MISO.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful trading strategies.
  • Experience in LMP forecasting and its application in trading strategies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, SQL, and Power BI.
  • Knowledge of programming in Visual Basic, Matlab, or Python is a plus.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to adapt to changing responsibilities and support the growth of the commercial team.
  • Experience in renewable energy markets, particularly solar.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance issues related to congestion trading.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and risk management.
