Construction Equipment Mechanic

Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Construction Equipment Mechanic to join our team. The Construction Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of heavy construction equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, dump trucks, and other machinery used in construction operations. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and experience working with construction equipment in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on various construction equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, and loaders.


• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy machinery and perform repairs as necessary.


• Inspect equipment for safety and compliance with regulations, ensuring that all machinery is in optimal working condition.


• Troubleshoot and repair engines, transmissions, electrical systems, fuel systems, and other mechanical components of construction equipment.


• Replace or repair worn parts, such as bearings, hoses, and belts, ensuring all components meet manufacturer specifications.


• Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks to ensure machines operate efficiently.


• Perform welding and fabrication when necessary to repair broken or damaged parts.


• Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed on each piece of equipment.


• Ensure all repairs are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner to minimize equipment downtime.


• Assist in ordering parts and maintaining an organized inventory of tools and equipment.


• Follow safety procedures and company guidelines while working with construction equipment and machinery.


• Provide technical support and guidance to other team members when needed.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a construction equipment mechanic or in a similar role working with heavy machinery.


• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems used in construction equipment.


• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues efficiently.


• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and specialized equipment for repairs and maintenance.


• Experience with welding and fabricating parts is a plus.


• Ability to read and understand technical manuals and blueprints for equipment repairs.


• Strong attention to detail and ability to perform quality work in a fast-paced environment.


• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.


• Good communication skills and the ability to interact with others effectively.


• Valid driver’s license (CDL is a plus but not required).
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification in diesel mechanics, heavy equipment repair, or a related field.


• Experience with specific brands of equipment such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, or Volvo.


• Welding certification or experience with advanced fabrication techniques.


• Familiarity with electronic control systems in modern construction machinery.

Working Conditions:

• Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, often in construction zones or workshops.


• Exposure to various weather conditions and noise levels while working with machinery.


• Some lifting, bending, and squatting may be required when inspecting or repairing equipment.


• Ability to work in tight spaces and awkward positions while repairing machinery.


• Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required depending on project schedules.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and carry heavy tools or parts.


• Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and squat for extended periods.


• Ability to use hand tools and power tools as required for equipment repairs.


• Ability to work in physically demanding environments and under varying conditions.
