Position Overview:

This job position is part of the Antarctic Infrastructure and Modernization for Science (AIMS) project. This is an initiative of the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) United States Antarctic Program (USAP) and is a major capital investment effort to support the United States’ world-class science program in Antarctica. The infrastructure modernization being proposed under the AIMS project is to ensure that McMurdo Station remains a viable platform for supporting Antarctic science for the next 35 to 50 years. Parsons is the designer and builder for the Antarctic Infrastructure Improvement (AIMS) efforts under the Antarctic Support Contract with the National Science Foundation. You will be involved in the largest construction project ever performed on the continent of Antarctica.

You will work remotely at home during the off-season, and then deploy through New Zealand to Antarctica and will be part of the on-site team to deliver this flagship project for the NSF and the United States during site activities. (Projected deployment dates of Oct 2024 - March 2025)

Parsons is adding a Electrical Field Engineer position to support the delivery of the AIMS VEOC Project (1-story vehicle maintenance structure). Ideal candidate should be able to work under general directions and willing to relocate to project site location in Antarctica (seasonal) as required. Typical projects range up to $30 million in total installed cost.

Responsibilities:

Review the construction project specifications, draft, and provide the necessary submittals as required

Review drawings issued for construction, prepare, and submit RFIs when clarification is needed from the engineers of record

Maintain up to date redline and as-built drawing set

Conduct initial quantity estimation using provided drawings issued for construction

Collaborate with buyers to solicit bids or quotes from chosen vendors

Evaluate vendor proposals to determine the best-suited supplier and respond to technical inquiries

Track the progress of purchase orders, including material fabrication, and oversee delivery to Port Hueneme, California

Collaborate with project scheduler to resource load schedules, track completed tasks, identify critical path activities, and optimize sequencing to minimize disruptions

Prepare work packages for project managers, client representatives, and construction crews to review before commencing construction

Act as a liaison for project subcontractors, monitoring the timeliness of their submittals, materials, and invoices to ensure compliance with required deadlines

Oversee construction activities to guarantee adherence to project specifications

Monitor the craftsmanship and material usage on-site to uphold quality standards

Foster communication between construction crews and project leadership

Offer technical assistance to address queries raised by on-site crews

Conduct preparatory meetings with client representatives, quality control, and site foremen to discuss the construction work plans, Inspection and Testing Plans (ITPs), and safety AHJ

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or similar

5+ years of related work experience in the field of construction

Experience with building mechanical and electrical systems desired.

Ability to work in McMurdo Station, Antarctica for 6 months during construction season

Proficient in Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office

Salary Range:

$70,500.00 - $123,400.00
