About Your Role


CMTS is seeking a highly qualified Construction Inspector to support the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA’s Capital Improvement Program.


This position will be responsible for inspecting major heavy civil, roadway, utility, bridge, and reinforced concrete construction activities to ensure compliance with applicable plans, specifications, safety requirements, and City, County, and Caltrans standards.



Required Licenses and Training


Candidates must possess one of the following current Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) Deputy Inspector licenses:



  • LADBS Grading Deputy License

  • LADBS Deputy Post-Tensioning / Pre-Stressed License


Successfully hired candidates must provide proof of Cal-OSHA 30-hour training completed within the previous four years prior to beginning the assignment.




Required Experience


Candidates must possess the following experience:



  • Minimum 5 years of inspection experience on Caltrans bridge, roadway, and structural projects; OR

  • Minimum 10 years of Superintendent experience on Caltrans bridge, roadway, and structural projects.

  • Minimum 10 years of public works field inspection experience, with an emphasis on heavy civil and roadway construction, or qualifying Caltrans Superintendent experience.

  • Demonstrated expertise inspecting sewer systems, storm drains, utility infrastructure, and traffic control operations.

  • Strong knowledge of City of Los Angeles, County of Los Angeles, and Caltrans standards.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment while also performing independently with minimal supervision.



Responsibilities


As a Construction Inspector, your responsibilities will include:



  • Inspect major reinforced concrete structures, including pile foundations, roadways, and bridges across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Inspect sanitary sewer and storm drain installations and associated structures in accordance with City and County of Los Angeles standards.

  • Inspect street lighting and traffic signal systems in accordance with City of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Lighting and Los Angeles Department of Transportation requirements.

  • Apply City of Los Angeles Standard Plans and Specifications and the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (Greenbook).

  • Apply Caltrans Standard Plans and Specifications.

  • Monitor and enforce multi-phased, site-specific traffic control plans with particular emphasis on pedestrian safety and routing.

  • Apply and enforce Cal-OSHA, contractor, and LAWA safety requirements.

  • Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting construction activities, deficiencies, issues, and safety concerns.

  • Assist with the review and approval of contractor monthly progress payment requests based on completed work and approved schedules of values.

  • Collaborate with a large team of inspectors supporting LAWA projects.



Technology Requirements


Candidates should be comfortable using electronic systems to review project plans and contract documents, including RFIs, submittals, and change orders.


Working knowledge of construction and project management systems is required, including platforms such as:



  • PMWeb

  • Bluebeam

  • Procore

  • Adobe Pro

  • Microsoft Office

  • Microsoft Outlook

  • Project Management Information Systems (PMIS) used for inspection reporting and document control




Education and Preferred Certifications



  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Current LADBS Grading or Post-Tensioning Deputy Inspector License required.

  • Current Caltrans Test Method Certifications in the 100, 200, 300, and 500 series are desired.

  • Cal-OSHA 30-hour training completed within the previous four years is required prior to assignment.






Additional Requirements


This position may require employees to work various shifts, including overtime, swing shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays based on project needs. Additional duties may be assigned as required.
