Construction Laborer

Job Summary:

This position holds responsibility for performing a variety of basic tasks related to commercial construction as directed by supervisor.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Dig, spread, and level dirt and gravel using pick and shovel or come along.
Lift, carry, and hold construction materials, tools, and supplies.
Clean tools, equipment, materials, and work areas.
Mix, pour, and spread concrete, gravel, and other materials using hand tools.
Join, wrap, and seal sections of pipe.
Drive stakes to hold forms.
Bolt, nail, align, and block up under forms.
Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
Smooth and finish freshly poured cement or concrete, using float, trowel, or screed.
Mop, brush, or spread paints or bituminous compounds over surfaces for protection.
Spray materials such as water and concrete sealers to clean, coat or seal surfaces.
Apply caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal crevices.
Grind, sand, or polish concrete using abrasive tools or machines.
Perform a variety of tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools, such as demolishing buildings, sawing lumber, dismantling forms, removing projects from concrete mounting pipe hangers, and cutting and attaching insulating material.
Perform a variety of routine, non-machine tasks, such as removing forms from set concrete, filling expansion joints.
Assist in building concrete forms and pouring and finishing concrete.
Assist in erecting scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and work pieces during construction.
Maintain awareness of safety rules and procedures.
Identify safety hazards and report to project supervisors.
Perform additional assignments at supervisor's direction.

Knowledge, Experience & Competencies:
Ability to receive and follow instructions
Ability to perform a variety of duties which may often change, repeating tasks of short duration according to a set procedure
Ability to work within standards of accuracy
Ability to work well under time constraints and in a team-based environment
Ability to work Monday through Friday, at least eight hours per day, five days per week between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Ability to work on Saturdays and Sundays as needed to meet project schedules and demands

Physical Demands of Job:
Ability to work outdoors and indoors without temperature control continuously
Ability to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects without assistance from other personnel or lifting equipment
Constant standing, frequent walking, occasional kneeling/squatting/climbing
Ability to maintain balance while walking and working on scaffolds and ladders
Ability to reach for, grasp, and manipulate construction materials and tools
Ability to see well (naturally or with correction)
