Project Engineer

Location: Fort Wayne

Salary: $75,000–$85,000 

 

Position Overview

An established general contractor is seeking a Project Engineer to support Project Managers in coordinating and executing commercial construction projects. This is a great opportunity for a construction professional looking to grow their project management skills while gaining hands-on experience with budgeting, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, and project documentation.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable collaborating with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and design teams to help deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• 
  

  Support Project Managers with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and overall project execution.

  
  


• 
  

  Assist with estimates, proposals, project budgets, and cost tracking.

  
  


• 
  

  Coordinate subcontractor and vendor procurement, including reviewing bids and preparing purchase orders and subcontracts.

  
  


• 
  

  Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and other project documentation.

  
  


• 
  

  Assist with monthly billings, payment applications, receivables, and project cost reporting.

  
  


• 
  

  Monitor project schedules and coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and field teams to maintain project timelines.

  
  


• 
  

  Collaborate with Project Superintendents on quality control, jobsite coordination, and safety planning.

  
  


• 
  

  Maintain accurate project logs and ensure outstanding documentation and action items are resolved promptly.

  
  


• 
  

  Support project closeout, punch list completion, and final documentation.

  
  


• 
  

  Build positive working relationships with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams.

  
  

Qualifications

• 
  

  Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related field.

  
  


• 
  

  Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  
  


• 
  

  Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.

  
  


• 
  

  Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with construction project management and estimating software is a plus.

  
  


• 
  

  Understanding of construction processes, project scheduling, budgeting, and subcontractor coordination is preferred.

  
  


• 
  

  Ability to work collaboratively with field and office teams.

  
  


• 
  

  Willingness to obtain OSHA 10 certification and complete required pre-employment screenings.
