Job Description - Construction Project Manager

Wolverine Construction, formerly Wolverine Building Group is recognized nationally as a leader in the construction industry. We specialize in industrial, multi-unit residential, healthcare, office, retail, and restaurant construction. We provide quality building solutions through integrity, value and craftsmanship and are a growth company of nearly 200 employees headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan with locations in Brighton and Lansing, Michigan.

As an organization, we exist to positively impact people and communities.

We’re proud to be consistently recognized as one of the “Best and Brightest Companies to Work For,” a testament to our commitment not only to excellence in construction, but to fostering a workplace where our people can succeed and grow.

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail‑oriented Construction Project Manager to oversee affordable housing projects with a strong emphasis on MSHDA and LIHTC compliance. This role is ideal for a professional who understands the administrative and regulatory demands of MSHDA-funded projects and is comfortable managing work in occupied renovation environments.

While a wide range of project types is not required, candidates must be committed to the nature of this work and interested in continuing within this specialized space long term.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage construction projects with a strong focus on MSHDA and LIHTC compliance requirements.

  • Oversee and coordinate occupied renovation projects, ensuring safety, communication, and minimal disruption.

  • Prepare, review, and submit required documentation, reports, and compliance materials accurately and on time.

  • Maintain detailed project records and ensure adherence to all regulatory, funding, and reporting standards.

  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and financial reporting, ensuring timely updates and transparency.

  • Identify and resolve design, construction, and scheduling issues as they arise.

  • Engage in business development by supporting proposals, presentations, and client relationship building.

  • Travel frequently to projects throughout Michigan (typically 1-1.5 hours from Grand Rapids but can be further project dependent).

  • Coordinate with owners, developers, inspectors, contractors, and internal teams.

  • Utilize project management and reporting tools to track progress and ensure accuracy.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Strong understanding of construction compliance, documentation, and reporting requirements.

  • Highly detail-oriented, analytical, and process-driven.

  • Comfortable with administrative and reporting responsibilities as a major component of the role.

  • Tech‑savvy; proficient with project management software and reporting tools.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • 3 years of commercial construction project management experience.

  • Experience with MSHDA-funded projects preferred but not required.

  • Occupied renovation experience strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with LIHTC projects preferred but not required.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Procore, and other project management tools.

  • Strong understanding of construction principles, project management, and financial acumen.

  • Commitment to safety, quality, and team development.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

  • Opportunity to lead diverse, challenging projects from day one.

  • Supportive environment where your initiative and problem-solving are recognized.

  • Collaboration with experienced professionals across multiple disciplines.

  • Exposure to business development and client engagement opportunities.

Joining our collaborative work environment provides opportunities for advancement, competitive wages, and great benefits including:

• Low-cost medical insurance options, including a HDHP with HSA match

• Dental, vision, basic life, voluntary life, short- and long-term disability insurance

• 401(k) retirement plan with generous employer match
