Summary:

We are looking for a Commercial Start-Up Technician who will be responsible for the commissioning and start-up of newly installed commercial HVAC, refrigeration, and mechanical systems. This role ensures all systems are fully operational, meet design specifications, and are ready for customer handoff. The ideal candidate has strong troubleshooting skills, a deep understanding of system components, and the ability to work independently or as part of a project team.

Essential Job Duties:

• Perform start-up, commissioning, and functional testing of commercial HVAC/R systems, including rooftop units, split systems, chillers, VRF/VRV systems, and controls.


• Verify installation quality and ensure all components are functioning according to manufacturer specifications and design intent.


• Calibrate, adjust, and program system controls, including thermostats, sensors, and BAS/EMS interfaces.


• Troubleshoot operational issues and coordinate with installation crews and project managers to resolve deficiencies.


• Document start-up procedures, test results, and system performance metrics accurately.


• Communicate effectively with contractors and customers during commissioning and turnover processes.


• Ensure compliance with safety protocols, project specifications, and company standards.


• Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicle in safe and clean working condition.


• Provide training or guidance to end-users or maintenance personnel as required.

• Refrigeration Start-up Technicians are responsible for start-up of supermarket refrigeration, heating, and ventilation equipment to ensure customer needs are met efficiently, accurately, and on time as well as assist with Energy Optimization (EO) projects


• The ideal candidate should know advanced solid-state controls; oil systems safety controls; mechanical sub-cooling; introduction to head pressure controls for energy reduction; introduction to energy management systems (EMS); refrigeration rack oil systems; advanced de-frost diagnosis; and single and parallel compressor system start-up in a supermarket environment


• The technician will function as the subject matter expert for processes, procedures, and projects


• Diagnose system issues using testing and visual inspections based on specifications


• Performs evacuations of parallel racks after verifying pressure tests


• Performs all EMS wiring and programming for all manufacturers of EMS systems


• Performs full start-up of new parallel refrigeration systems and individual systems


• Lead small projects such as single case and condenser changeouts


• Assists with EO projects which would include retro-commissioning of supermarkets for system performance or utility programs, EMS upgrades, leak detection upgrades, and gas conversion projects


• Works with local Service and Construction Managers between projects to assist in problematic stores, training for junior technicians and foremen, or other areas as needed

• Start-up, test, and verify functionality of newly installed HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and electrical systems
  


• Collaborate with subcontractors and vendors to ensure proper system integration


• Interpret blueprints, identify discrepancies, and communicate necessary adjustments


• Align and level equipment for optimal performance
