Customers include commercial boilers, power or ethanol plants, foundries, steel mills, heat treaters, refineries, and others who require heat-resistant materials for high temperature processes.

Impact of the Role


The construction superintendent oversees the timely, quality installation of projects at job sites. This role leads and coordinates efforts of multiple stakeholders to ensure all work is performed efficiently, safely, and according to specifications, standards, policies, regulations, and guidelines. This exempt role is very hands-on.


 


What the Role Does



  1. Supervise and lead field installations, focusing on timeliness, budget, and superior quality.

  2. Oversee quality control to meet company standards and exceed customer expectations.

  3. Schedule and assign tasks to field bricklayers and laborers as projects arise.

  4. Enter timecard information timely and accurately to ensure proper job costing.

  5. Understand and implement all manufacturer installation requirements for refractory products.

  6. Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues with assistance from the mechanical department.

  7. Provide onsite support for field installations, as some require rapid action.

  8. Travel to job sites frequently throughout the Midwest including overnight.

  9. Collaborate with estimators and other stakeholders, assisting with subcontractor selection and supervision.

  10. Recommend improvements related to the quality of work, scope changes, and customer satisfaction.

  11. Collaborate to establish the region’s delivery schedule, ensuring that all material and equipment arrive at job sites on time and complete.

  12. Mentor, coach, and develop team members.

  13. Maintain the MN warehouse including any related staff.

  14. Be a contact for sales and office team members, providing field installation updates, conducting inspections, and giving guidance to estimators.

  15. Support safety initiatives and ensure procedures are followed, e.g., confined space, lock out/tag out, hot work, fall protection, scaffolding, and more.



What You Bring


Knowledge, Education



  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Knowledge of construction installations, tool operation and the operation and maintenance of power tools

  • OSHA-30 or higher safety certification required, confined space certification and MSHA certifications are preferred



Experience



  • Minimum 5 years of related experience in construction, project management, or similar

  • Combined experience and education will be considered

  • Strong math skills including computing fractions, ratios, percentages, etc.

  • Ability to read, interpret, prepare, and understand documents, e.g., orders, procedure manuals, safety rules, schematics, manuals, and blueprints to understand and follow installation procedures

  • Ability to operate a forklift, aerial lift, scissor lift, off-road lifts, and extended boom

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Outlook

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record



Physical



  • Regularly using hands to handle, touch, type, and feel; regularly walk, move, stand, sit, and balance; may stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

  • Must have close, distance, and peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus

  • Must lift up to 55 lbs. at times and 25 lbs. frequently, e.g., to move parts to/from storage and work areas



Work Environment/Schedule



  • Will travel to job sites, primarily in the Midwest, travel between 50-75% of the time.

  • Will use/wear required safety equipment/Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), e.g., safety glasses, hardhat, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes or work boots, and safety vest

  • Work may be in confined spaces; occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals

  • Frequently exposed to fumes, grease, oil, dust, and airborne particles

  • Will work near moving mechanical parts, with a noise level that is usually moderate and occasionally loud
