Note: This position is one involving safety-sensitive job duties.

I. POSITION SUMMARY:

Places and maintains cable within the underground conduit system. Places direct buried cable using plowing, digging, and trenching equipment. Installs and removes aerial cable, including installation of messenger strands and transfer of cable and equipment from old poles to new poles using aerial lift (bucket truck). Installs OSP feeder and distribution copper and fiber optic cable. 

II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Places direct buried fiber optic cable or conduit by operating plowing, digging, trenching, and boring equipment.
2. Installs pedestals, cabinets, hand holes, fiber optic marker posts.
3. Maintains aerial and buried copper and fiber optic cable by assisting with testing, splicing, and repairing cable.
4. Repairs and maintains aerial copper and fiber optic cable by installing and removing aerial copper and fiber optic cable and strands, attaching hardware, inspecting lines and poles, and changing out poles.
5. Installs OSP feeder and distribution copper and fiber optic cable, and related cabinets/pedestals.
6. Flag traffic
7. May assist with copper and fiber optic splicing activities.
8. Updates field copy of construction plans for “as built” records.
9. Performs all other related duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

III. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Skill in reading specification sheets, staking sheets, CAD maps, and cable records.
3. Ability to use iPad, laptop PC, desktop device, and applicable software.
4. Ability to communicate with co-workers and various business contacts professionally and courteously. 
5. Ability to operate a vehicle and equipment appropriate for the job position.
6. Ability to pay close attention to detail.
7. Ability to function effectively as a team player.
8. Ability to work in extreme hot, cold, and wet environments.

IV. LICENSE:

• Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License is required.
• Ability to obtain a CDL.

V. Physical Requirements:

• Seeing - Must be able to see well enough to read service orders and trouble reports, colors of fiber: 75-100%
• Hearing - Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with employees and business contacts: 75-100%
• Standing/Walking - Must be able to move about the work site: 75-100%
• Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling - Must be able to climb, stoop, kneel and crawl to perform installations: 75-100%
• Lifting/Pulling/Pushing - Must be able to lift at least 75 lbs.: 75-100%
• Fingering/Grasping/Feeling - Must be able to write, type, and use phone system: 75-100%

VI. WORKING CONDITIONS:

This factor measures the surroundings or physical conditions under which a job must be done and the extent to which those conditions make the job pleasant or less agreeable. Consider the local climate and or weather conditions along with the presence and relative amount of exposure to dust, dirt, heat, fumes, contaminants, cold, noise, vibration, wetness, etc. 

This position requires a great deal of exposure to the outdoors, which varies greatly on a daily basis, based on the climate and weather patterns of Oklahoma. In addition to working outdoors, this position may require exposure to attics and crawl spaces which introduce exposure to other external variables which can be uncomfortable. This position may require exposure to heavy machinery and industrial equipment which can greatly affect the pleasantness of the employee’s work environment. 

This position is required to work after hours and weekends when damages occur to BTC’s facilities.
