Construction Technician

Job Summary:

FOCUS Broadband is currently seeking a skilled Construction Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for operating a variety of equipment, including locators, trenchers, backhoes, and boring equipment, to install and maintain broadband infrastructure at customer locations. The Construction Technician must possess the ability to read and interpret maps and operating manuals while also demonstrating proficiency in routine equipment maintenance. Safety is paramount in our work, and candidates should adhere to all safety protocols and possess a Class A CDL license to legally operate trucks with trailers. Previous experience in construction or broadband infrastructure projects is preferred. Reporting directly to the Construction Manager, the ideal candidate will collaborate effectively with team members and demonstrate a commitment to our company values of integrity, professionalism, and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

• May assist with burying service drops using trenchers and other digging equipment at customer locations.
• Frequently uses hand tools such as shovels, spades, rakes, etc. to finish work and confined areas.
• May assist with aerial work, including installing or repairing infrastructure on utility poles using bucket trucks and aerial equipment.
• May operate a truck with a trailer attached.
• Locates FOCUS Broadband facilities as needed.
• Knowledge of telephone plant and line construction process.
• Skill in operating various heavy machinery and construction equipment.
• Ability to communicate with co-workers and various business contacts professionally and courteously.
• Ability to effectively function as a team player.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 60 pounds.
• Ability to report to work regularly and punctually.
• Ability to work overtime both with and without notice as needed.

Minimum qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous heavy equipment operation experience required.
• Experience with bucket trucks and/or aerial work preferred.
• 10-hour OSHA (Construction) preferred.
• Flagger Certification preferred.
• Work Zone Supervisor preferred.
• Must be available for flexible work schedules. Example: day shift, night shift, weekends, on-call, overtime.
• Valid Commercial Class A Driver’s License (CDL) required or ability to achieve within 12 months.
