Job Description - Consultant, Special Education Solutions

Description

SUMMARY

The Consultant for Special Education Solutions directly reports to the Director of Regional Special Education Network and is primarily responsible for providing leadership, professional development and instructional coaching to districts on Student Services and Special Education related topics, as these topics relate to curriculum, instruction, assessment, standards, organization, and culture. The Special Education Solutions Consultant will also be responsible for developing and providing high quality products and services to internal and external stakeholders and partnership organizations. 

FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions

  • Develop, promote, and deliver high-quality, timely professional development and coaching consistent with stakeholder’s goals.
  • Build relationships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
  • Gather, organize, analyze, and utilize data to effectively determine customer and department needs and to formulate solutions. 
  • Attend appropriate training, meetings, workshops, and in-services.
  • Serve as an online influencer for the Student Services Leadership and Learning Center.
  • Generate quality content modules using best practices for online learning.
  • Utilize department protocol for the management of the invoice process.
  • Demonstrate aptitude in the promotion of products and services.
  • Contribute to progress monitoring the department Plan on a Page in alignment with an individual Plan on a Page (strategic).
  • Maintain current knowledge regarding new state and federal regulations (Chapter 115 and IDEA).

Other Functions

  • Take responsibility for professional growth based on feedback, research and best practice.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Experience, Education, and/or Licensure

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Master’s degree in Teaching - Special Education, Educational Leadership, or Educational Administration. 
  • Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) license in a Special Education or Student Services area is required.
  • At least five (5) years of experience working within a K-12 school district in licensed areas, and/or special education developmental and/or leadership roles.

  • Computer skills, including email, word processing, and virtual meeting scheduling.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google platform applications, along with the ability to learn agency-specific applications to support business operations.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with diverse work teams.
  • Engage with clients in a positive manner that represents self, team, and Agency.
  • Work as a team and collaborate effectively with others to meet the needs of the Agency.
  • Process-oriented.
  • Communicate effectively and timely, verbally and in writing, to a diverse audience.

  • Remain flexible in order to adapt to changes in the work environment.
  • Ability to interpret and administer policies and procedures consistently and objectively.
  • Excellent time management with the ability to manage schedules and meet deadlines.

  • Work accurately with close attention to detail.
  • Exhibit a high degree of confidentiality of sensitive information and process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Work effectively, professionally, and tactfully with internal agency staff and external clients. 
  • Ability to set and meet high standards of customer service (internal and external).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate interaction with the workforce.
  • Exhibit a professional, businesslike appearance and demeanor.
  • Professionally represent the agency and public, private and parochial school districts in interactions with staff, customers and community.
  • Facilitate an overall work environment of mutual respect and collaboration.
  • Ability to interpret data.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work Environment

  • Ability to work in a professional and flexible office environment, with or without visual and audible distractions.
  • Ability to work in a school environment, with or without visual and audible distractions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • The position may require extended hours, including evenings and weekends, and travel to multiple work sites.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to drive to remote locations as needed.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and an ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must regularly communicate effectively in person, via phone, and in writing.
  • The employee will lift or move office products and supplies up to 20 pounds.
